RE: Athlon Pre-Spring 1-128 Starting QB Rankings
If there's one thing I've learned from this thread, it's that everybody's QB is in the top half of the conference. So congratulations everyone.
Also, FWIW, a lot of bigger schools passed on Hansen because of an alleged biceps injury. I don't know if or how that may be affecting the rankings.

I'm not confident on the Southern QB's. I think as a combo QB play of our top 2 we are a strong candidate, but both of our seniors have some serious flaws.
Solid OL play will help our QB's this year compared to the rough start they had in 2015. Upshaw needs to learn how to break a tackle to be considered an elite QB in the SBC.
On a positive note, I'm excited to see Frosh McConnell and his development.

I do think that Jones' growth/development under Fran was stunted . . . .
With Fran gone, and a new staff in place, I'm looking forward to the coming season.
Can't wait to see how the new staff Coaches our guys up, and can't wait to see if it doesn't translate into a Big year for Jones . . . .
I agree. The question is how well will Jones fit into the up-tempo, read option, spread offense that Brett Elliott runs. It seems like it would be a good fit. If he does adapt well, then I think the top three are Lamb, Jones and Linehan.

Keep in mind, this thing is not always 100% accurate, it lists Upshaw as our QB and says that Ellison has exhausted his eligibility??. Also it is projected Spring starter, and the write-ups often mention upcoming battles, etc.
As far as Sun Belters go:
#128 Scaife, GAST
#127 Davis, USA
#112 Davis, ULL
#110 Rogers, NMSU
#109 Hansen, stAte
# 85 Linehan, Idaho
# 73 Smith, ULM
# 72 Silvers, Troy
# 54 Jones, TXST
# 41 Upshaw, GS
# 20 Lamb, App
The way he came in and dominated BG, maybe he should be the starter. Dude is lightning fast. I dropped my jaw when he ran that QB draw play up the middle and split the safeties. Reminded me of a poor man's Armanti Edwards.
That was the CB's he split...he totally ruined their angles, shows just how fast he was going.
Upshaw is faster than Edwards. Edwards was tough to bring down though and had a hell of an arm, which made him even more potent.
Upshaw's weakness is that he goes down fairly easy when people get a hand on him but the problem is that they have to get a hand on him.

First I've heard of this. Do you have any information on when it happened? I couldn't find anything on the web.

He missed the first game last season with a leg injury.
Nothing after that.
He's fine.
