I, for one, do not perceive The Enquirer to be out "to get" UC. I think they could be more supportive, but they're not in a conspiracy to injure UC.
Are you talking about this: http://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/c.../79866590/ ? That's not the same guy that wrote the original article.
The guy in the link above claims to be the one who made the Freedom of Information request.

Because the cat is out of the bag with respect to UC pursuing membership in the Big 12 Conference, I am not too proud to beg on behalf of my alma mater, especially if it helps repair any damage caused by an untimely Freedom of Information request.
Mr. Bowlsby and other esteemed decision makers of the Big 12, please admit the University of Cincinnati to your athletic conference. Our vibrant university and beautiful city can offer your members the following:
A great destination for your teams to visit with an urban campus located in a gentrifying part of town and only two miles from the revitalized urban core. Our city is much more interesting than the highways and chain restaurants endemic to Tampa and Orlando and the sterile Puritanism of Salt Lake City. Memphis might be more fun at night, but do you really want to spend much time there? Does anyone really want to visit Storrs, including the people who lived there?
An athletic tradition greater than any other school you are considering. True, Memphis hoops lost in the finals to UCLA forty years ago, but UC has two national titles. The second best era of Memphis hoops was the Penny Hardaway era, but they could never beat UC. I realize that BYU has a football national title, but no one besides Mitt Romney and residents of Utah believe they deserved it. National championships are not won by beating 6-6 teams in the Holiday Bowl. The terms athletic tradition and history cannot be used in the same sentence with either South Florida and Central Florida.
The ability of your football teams to continue to annually beat up on Tommy Tuberville, at least until he finally rides off into retirement. It will be like playing Kansas except in a city with better food and more attractions than Lawrence.
With all respect and as much groveling as necessary, please, please, please, admit UC to your conference. We promise to view you and your fellow decision makers the same way Parisians viewed US soldiers after WWII. You will be our liberators.
Sincerely, Jay Brinker and every other UC alum.
Jason Williams wrote the article. Jay Brinker is one of Paul Daugherty's fill-in writers. I don't think he works for the Enquirer so it's pretty doubtful he made the request... Especially since he didn't follow up that request with his own article, wouldn't you say?

Thanks for posting the article. I thought it said he filed the request. It does not. I stand corrected.

Really Jay Brinker??? Running down every other program is not how to make friends and influence the Big 12. I'm glad the decision makers at UC
have more class than you've expressed...

RE: What is UC hiding about the Big 12 conference?
Anybody think what it will be like for UC athletics the first 5 years if we join the BIG 12? We didn't dominate the AAC in football and the best teams in the AAC are bottom dwellers in the BIG 12. The 1 hour time zone difference for most fans is not a good thing. West Virginia took a good whupping for a while in the BIG 12. What will it be like for UC in that scenario? i don't like being a whipping post in a league. Is the money worth it?

Like that whipping we were supposed to take when we joined the Big East?

Is the money worth it?! Of course it is. I would lime to see a national championship from one of our revenue sports in my lifetime. That's unlikely to happen in the AAC.

But don't you think that the quality of player goes up when you join a P5 conference. UC would once again be in the conversation when it comes to recruits going to Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, West Virginia, Louisville and UK.

You don't think we could do better with the added prestige of playing in a big boy league and also getting paid 10+x what we are now with our media deal? We beat out a lot of P5 programs now for recruiting... I imagine our talent level would rise greatly with a move to the big 12.
Yes, it's worth it.

There were a handful of goobers on UC boards who thought the move to the BE was a bad idea and that we should stay in C-USA. I know....

Yes, it's worth it.
If you look at the trajectory, we took some pretty good lumps the first year in the BE, but then steadily improved to where we were dominating the conference by year 4.
Of course that was under the tutelage of different head coaches, but...

Not to mention the extra money makes it easier to add money to the recruiting budget and allow you to go see more players.

We also suffered in year 1 because Minter knew he was on the hot seat and stacked his roster with upper classmen. He ended up getting fired anyway and Dantonio had I think 30+ seniors his first year which was the last year in CUSA. Our first year in BE I'm pretty sure we were the youngest team in the country. Looking back it was pretty miraculous for Dantonio to be able to turn over the roster that quickly that we went to a bowl and beat a top 10 opponent in year 2 of the BE.

If we get in B12 we can afford to deep 6 Tubs and pay an non retired coach.

yep, That I do. I always want UC to be a top tier program. I just cringe when I know we'll be in bottom half for a few years. That's alot of stress on fans. But, I'm not running the program and many are paid to make these decisions. I just hope that if we join the BIG 12, that UC will remain competitive until the recruiting of the Raised Level is accomplished. I wonder, if UC joins the Big 12, will they finally be able to have a women's fast pitch softball team? Cincinnati area has some good recruits in that sport and I never could figure out why UC never wanted to pursue that sport.

What a great idea, women's fast pitch softball team. That would draw huge crowds and big revenue!
Perhaps a Curling Team. Or Log Walking?
