It's here! It's national signing day! Already today we have a bit of a surprise as #2 CB Trayvon Mullen has committed to Clemson live on ESPN over FSU, Louisville & others. Congrats Clemson.
Any other surprises?
How is your team doing today?

It's seems to be the recruiting ranking census that FSU, Clemson, Miami, NC & Duke are leading the ACC heading into the day. Lets see how the day unfolds.

Cards get disappointing news as Rivals 4* DB Green breaks his commitment to Louisville & signs with UTSA.

RE: NSD
Pitt got a surprise LOI from Keyshon Camp - 4 star out of FL.
On the flip side, 4 star ATH George Hill from OH has not sent his LOI in yet, but according to sources was supposed to be in by 11 am.
There are 2 question marks still, but looks like everyone that was expected is in - including the last minute surprise signing.
Rivals has Pitt ranked 27, Scout has Pitt at 24.

Academic issues lead Green to forgo a 5th year of high school & to sign with UTSA instead.

Another year, another Top 10 class. Still waiting on decisions from four star OL John Simpson and five star DL Rashan Gary but at this point they would just be two additional cherries added to a banana sundae with the works. Not many programs in the country can say that about the #1 overall player in the country.
Got to give the coaching staff a ton of credit.....they hadn't been recruiting DBs very hard because we didn't have any seniors so they had to get involved with a bunch of them late and were able to pull in two four stars and a three star.

RE: NSD
I guess Rashan Gary punked out
I guess if he helps Michigan beat Ohio State, it'll be worth it.

just guessing, but I'd say all of the offense recruits could redshirt. guys the probably won't redshirt: Lamar and Smith at LB, Simmons at S, Lawrence at DT, Kelly at DE, maybe Mullen at CB? heckuva fine haul for Swinney and Co.

Sounds about right, although I expect Feaster to play. We don't need to go through a year like last year where there is such a dramatic drop off when Gallman leaves the field.
One or more of the WR could see time depending on what happens with Cain.

Louisville picks up 2, London Iakopo
Safety out of California & LB Tobias Little from Alanta, Geo. Both are borderline 3-4* recruits.

FSU signed a class ranked anywhere from #1-#3 (currently #1 on ESPN's class.....but they aren't happy about it)

Second worst class ever inked by Paul Johnson while at GT. Roundly considered no better than second worst in the Coastal.

RE: NSD
Great day for FSU and Clemson. I'd say for Pitt and Duke as well.
You really can't judge a coach by their first truncated recruiting season. Harbaugh's first class was 37th last year. But anyway...
I don't think you can complain too much about the Miami class. Not ranked that highly, but over 50% blue chips and more of the state's top kids than UF.
Syracuse can't really complain, supposedly this is as good as any class they've had recently, and Babers turned it over almost completely in a couple months, so that's a good sign.
The VT and UVA classes sure didn't show any signs of life so far. Virginia is pretty bad, with Bronco just keeping mostly the kids London signed. Just read an article from him about his class...not sure he's on the same page with everyone else as far as serious recruiting goes in the south. I think he's a good coach, and he may have them middle of the pack based on that, but with his recruiting philosophy I think UVA's ceiling is still not going to be as high as it theoretically could be. Again, totally unfair to judge a class based on two moths of recruiting for these guys.
While FSU and Clemson killed it, the second tier of the ACC was kind of disappointing to me, especially considering the upward trajectory of the league and a big season from UNC last year. Understandably, it's a little soon for UNC's big season to pay dividends, but if they're in the 40s next year, I'm not sure they're really getting it done.
GT...I think we just have to stop thinking about GT as a potential regular ranked force in the ACC until there is a serious change there. Between the financial situation and the terrible recruiting (and I know it's a system, but the defensive recruiting isn't good either and won't be as long as they have to go against that offense in practice). I think what you get from GT is about all that should be expected at this point...5-6 losses a year, with a very nice season sprinkled in once or twice a decade or so.
We certainly don't want to see UNC, NC St., VT, UVA, GT so far outside the top 25 classes on a year in, year out basis.

UNC's class was not bad. They filled the gaps they needed to. Mostly 3 stars, but should be solid players. Rivals had them 24th, 247 35th and ESPN 33rd. They right now have verbals from 4 four stars for 2017.

RE: NSD
VT is going through a rough transition post-Beamer. Even though they initially said they were keeping several of Beamer's coaches, those guys have been leaving left and right (DB coach Torian Gray jumped to UF on NSD!) Down to just 3 former coaches now... it's going to be Fuente's show 100% if Foster leaves too.
