Needs to keep His Senate duties on track. He will be A-OK remaining there.

RE: Rand Paul is Out
The Republicans desperately need him to not lose his seat. He is not in the clear in that election.

If he couldn't do better in Iowa, he had to know he wasn't going anywhere this year.

I can't figure out why its taking Santorum so long. A few weeks ago Huckabee made a comment about it being hard to let go of your ego. Huckabee at least understood and he got out Tuesday. Iowa was where both of them had to do well.

I've said before, I don't think his heart was really in it. He has talked to me a couple of times about not wanting to put Will and Robert and Duncan through it. I think Kelley wanted it more than he did. He likes the intellectual give and take, but not the down and dirty part.

RE: Rand Paul is Out
I think Rand is merely leaving the door open. He has no chance this year and his message does not resonate with enough people given the world we live in today. He's pretty much the only high profile libertarian-esce person and to continue would only tarnish his reputation and his ability to run again. Smart move, IMO.

Interesting to read your take right from the horse's mouth.

The rabble-rouses were Trump and Bernie this cycle. I was hoping Ron's success in the previous elections would've paved the way for a moderately successful (even if not the emerging victor) rep from the libertarian wing in each subsequent election, whether that was Rand or not. Someone with the usual fiscal conservatism, but challenges the GOP bulwark on social/civil liberties and sensible foreign policy decision-making.

Unfortunately this hasn't been the case. Our frontrunners with the inside track to the POTUS are evangelicals, 'celebrities', socialists... 03-no

Just out of curiosity, what is your relationship with Paul? Have you worked with him professionally, or is he just a family friend? Clearly not asking for details or anything, just curious if it was a professional or personal relationship.

One of his brothers is a client and has been for 30 years. One of his sisters was partner in an ob/gyn clinic that was a client of my old firm until we sold it. I've known his mom and dad and another sister since the 1980s. I see Ron and Rand socially a couple of times a year.

Look for Cruz to inherit Rand's support, and see an uptick in the polls.

That's like going from Cruz to Bush and makes zero sense, but more power to you.

I think Comrade Sanders was like 62 years old when Rubio was born.

Was thinking the same thing, but Marco is just so irresistably cute.
