Pac-12 interested in Las Vegas?
Is the Pac-12 interested in expanding into the Las Vegas market? Do any current teams already cover Vegas?

They host the PAC 12 BB tourney as it is. So that somewhat counts I guess.

As far as a school? Why bother? I have a brother that lives out there and it is a short drive from Vegas to LA.

Corbett: forgot they left L.A.! Nebraska: so I guess the answer is "yes, UCLA/USC do"?

Would they be interested in the Honnolulu market? Assume it isn't big enough to matter.

Ha. You westerners.

Just a "short" 270mi drive. Practically bike there.

Biking anything under 300 is just being lazy. 270 is walk/jog distance.

Well, in California speak, that is not a long distance. 04-bow

RE: Pac-12 interested in Las Vegas?
PAC 12 basketball tournament is in Las Vegas and they have the annual Las Vegas Bowl bid. THAT plus the fact that USC, UCLA, Utah, and ASU are within easy drive distance - the Vegas market is covered.

If Las Vegas gets a new indoor stadium, I believe you will start to see kickoff classic type games in Vegas, hosted by PAC schools.

Maybe they could talk the Raiders into moving from Oakland.

If the Raiders move to Vegas and they share a brand new 65K seat dome with UNLV then I think they should seriously consider the Rebels as a member. Then add UT, OU and another Texas school.

Add just UNLV for a 13-team conference, and then play a round robin. Under CCG deregulation they could then pair the top two teams in the conference championship game.

It's a short drive to the Inland Empire maybe. 4 1/2 excluding traffic (assuming you make one stop) is nothing to sneeze at.

Yeah, when you live out west, the distances are nothing, as judged by the conference sizes. We're used to driving. Heck, there are places around here that are 2-3 hours apart at traffic time that have Houston addresses. Meanwhile, it is possible to walk to Philadelphia from New York (in theory, you'd have to go through a tunnel) in a day or two but they are world's apart.

They're trying.

If the Pac-12 wanted UNLV, and wanted to stay with an even number of teams, who is partner team?

Nevada or Hawai'i. Perhaps New Mexico but they aren't geographically contiguous or completely isolated to or like the other two.

C2, those are who I guessed. Boise St. also seems plausible. Are UN-Reno and UNLV rivals?

Honolulu is the 66th-ranked media market in the U.S. Las Vegas is 40th and Albuquerque is 48th.

http://www.tvjobs.com/cgi-bin/markets/market2.cgi

The attraction of Hawaii to the PAC-12 would not be capturing the Honolulu market but rather the opportunity to build more awareness of the conference in Asia and Australia by having a Honolulu presence. PAC-12 football and basketball games played at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday nights in the Islands could be broadcast live on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in Sydney and Melbourne, 2:00 p.m. in Tokyo and Seoul, 1:00 p.m. in Beijing and Shanghai, 12:00 noon in Singapore and 11:00 a.m. in Bangkok.

Hawaii: as I read I realized THAT would be the true benefit of adding the Rainbow Warriors.
