Also we are pretty deep at LB so I am pretty sure we can find some to replace his production or half of it.

Are we on the wrong board or tread with Ole Miss here?

Maybe I'm missing something...but how are they stealing the kid?

The player wants to leave to be closer to his sick mom...not sure that article gave the entire story. Maybe Memphis fans can fill in.

Mississippi kid wanting to go to Ole Miss. His teammates called him called him out when he was caught at a Ole Miss game doing the shark fin. His mother may be sick and hope she get better but it might be more of the reason Ole Miss missed on all their LB targets this year and are interested in him now after blowing him off in high school.

Agree. This is about a kid who wanted to go to Ole Miss, but didn't get a scholly offer, so he signed with Memphis. Then he becomes a star for us, and all of a sudden, OM is interested. Sitting out a year would stop a lot of kids, but OM is his "dream school."

I have no idea about his mother's situation, but I'm sure it would be the same, even if his mother wasn't sick. He is applying for a hardship waiver, but it seems odd, b/c there is only a 30-45 minute difference between Memphis and Oxford, to Grenada.

They got rid of hardship waivers. The only way he plays next year is if we grant him the "run off rule", which is doubtful.

it has been whispered that "ALLEGEDLY" Mississippi COACHES have been in direct contact with him while he was on scholarship here. most of the heavy lifting was done through intermediaries (the rivals guy for example) "ALLEGEDLY" of course. Memphis told Avery he could have his release to anywhere BUT Mississippi or Mississippi St. he didn't like that part so he's invoking the hardship claim. Grenada is roughly a 25 minute drive closer to Oxford than Memphis is. I dont know if the NCAA has ever had less of a travel distance to consider in one of these cases. now I am one of those guys who is usually all for the players but this case is outside the norm. Freeze may have finally stuck his nose out a little too far (the other SEC schools have been complaining about him and to make them break omerta tells you something).

RE: I love Freakin Ole Miss
Call a waaaambulance.

Memphis offered him a scholarship and the kid made something called a "commitment" to Memphis. Memphis has lived up to their agreement: they have trained him, fed him, and taught him how to be proficient at this position. As a result, he has thrived.

Now Ole Miss, which previously didn't want him, wants him. And he has always wanted to go to Ole Miss. So he wants Memphis to let him out of his commitment so he faces no consequence for being a turncoat. And Memphis said no --- thsi short list of teams are off limits. But otherwise, go away.

Good for Memphis. Can you imagine what happens if the G5, in addition to getting less money, less respect, less prestigious bowls, and less air time, also becomes a proving ground? Truly a minor league. Where the big boys can come grab players they "miss" on.

Screw that.

I'm all for kids getting a waiver if the situation calls for it. If a Tulsa kid wanted a waiver to UConn because his mom in New Haven had cancer, that should be a done deal. But if the real reason is you always wanted to play for UCONN and now you can, too bad. You sit out a year and have to suffer through an extra year of free education, free meals, and free training.

Poor thing.

Pretty obvious this has nothing to do with his mother based on his own comments. No way he gets a release with what he said.

Didn't Ole Miss just get hit with like 30 NCAA sanctions?

Nobody knows what the NOA says because Ole Miss is still sitting on it. Also not sure what "secondary violation" is supposed to mean as it's not the NCAA's nomenclature. They have Level I, Level II, Level III, etc... Level II is pretty bad, Level I is LOIC tier. The NCAA doesn't typically issue a Notice of Allegations for minor infractions.

The investigation continues...05-stirthepot

I didn't get the big deal until I read the line about him thinking he was too good for Memphis and regretting his decision. You were a 2* recruit out of high school man gtfo of here Memphis should be the ones thinking they can do better. Why would you even bring that comment up if this was all really about family?
