RE: Maryland's fake research
I don't see this story being nearly as negative as it sounds at first glance. It sounds mostly like someone got premature and posted something too early. It's definitely a problem and I'm sure the school will address it, but really not much here beyond a couple embarrassing stories.

In defense of the B1G, I fail to see how research (or lack thereof) at one school impacts any of the other schools in any noticeable way.

It's bad press for UMD, but that's pretty much it.

I just find the reporting of this thread to the mods quite humorous...much worse than this has happened on this board.

IMHO I think 5th Quarter ought to get sued over deceptive advertising...at the very least they need to retract the ad.

OnB, you're just talking about the athletic dept, I presume.

Of course, in the magical and mythical world of P5 athletic department accounting, there really is no such thing as a "loss" or a "profit".

RE: Maryland's fake research
ohio, exactly correct. There's nothing to see here, really. Certainly nothing that has anything to do with athletics at College Park.

Minnesota has had more than a couple embarrassing stories as of late -- directly related to athletics. And that doesn't really matter, either.

Neither school is shutting down. Neither will stop being elite research institutions. Neither is being kicked out of the B1G. And in neither case, is it worth a thread on here. 07-coffee3

TXMark, I find it mind-boggling that the standard of acceptable threads around here seems to be "well, someone did something worse than this in the past!"

Sheesh.
