Blog Article about TIgers by SMU Beat writer
Stuff we know, but from an outside perspective...
http://patternofbasketball.blogspot.com/...igers.html
Quote:1) Memphis can't shoot well enough to play with the big boys
The story of this game wasn't all that complicated. SMU spread the floor, moved the ball and knocked down open shots and Memphis did not. There's just no way a basketball team that does the latter is going to beat one that does the former at any level of the game. SMU shot 40.4% from the floor and 46.2% from 3 while Memphis shot 32.8% from the floor and 25% from 3. The Tigers were getting a lot of wide open shots and it's not like their misses were all that close. There were a lot of wounded ducks being thrown up at Moody tonight and it was not pretty.
Mod Note: Against AUP to quote full articles, so the quote was truncated. Not harm, but these guys write for free oftne. Clicks and traffic keep them relevant. Want to read the article, click above.
No harm by OP, honest mistake. Carry on all!

RE: Blog Article about TIgers by SMU Beat writer
This is a blog post on a blogging site. It's not the SMU beat writer.
This was also posted the other day as well.
About some of the stuff in the article. One Will Barton was only here 2 years not the 3+ years mentioned. Second Barton digging himself out of a hole that Pastner had put him in. Stats improved between 1st and 2nd years quite a lot.
1st year: 12.3 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.8 apg, 2.5 topg
2nd year: 18.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 2.9 apg, 2.1 topg
Draft had to do more with his size than anything.
You could possibly make a case for Adonis but he was always a tweener, too small to play inside in the NBA. Not a good enough ball handler/shooter to play outside. Tarik Black has been discussed ad infinitum.
Some of the other stuff in the blog is fairly obvious and/or just plain dumb (Shaq Goodwin would have been an NBA player 10 years ago???).

I agree with the article. Shaq is more of a back to the basket power-forward as opposed to a stretch 4 who can dribble/ pull up like a wing player. He is more similar to Zbo than Durrant, Bosh, Love Grizzlies are having to use ZBo differently now too. I think Shaq would have made an NBA roster 10 years ago. This is one of the few things that isn't Pastners fault Shaq isn't big enough to play center

If instead of falling out of the polls because we kept losing to bad and mediocre teams, and then losing in the first round of the tournament those two years, we had had maintained national relevance and made some noise in the tournament, Barton would have gotten more exposure and probably would have been a first round pick if not borderline lottery which he was supposed to be when he got here.
Adonis was supposed to be a no brainer lottery pick and just fell off a cliff. And it's telling that Black is a borderline NBA talent, but never really got on track here.
In short, there's a history of talent coming to Memphis under Pastner, never developing and having their draft stock drop off to nothing.
The only real exception is DJ Stephens, but that had more to do with his ridiculous athletic gifts than anything.

I've been a Pastner guy, but have been slowly coming to the other side over the past two seasons.
That article really is spot on...as much as I hate to admit it.

Unfortunately he is dead on. How many BAD shot did SMU take before game became a laughter? Cal's teams were the same way-very rarely did a player take a bad shot. It is the coaching-players must be told where their green zones are for shooting the ball. Lawson may the worst volume shooter in high major CBB. He should be playing no more that 20-25 minutes per game but Pastner screwed up and we only have 3 bigs and 2 are raw.

Once again, poorly worded and non-descript subject lines allow for many of us to skip over them.
This thread's subject line made me want to open it and read. The original post, entitled "Interesting Read", did not.
