It is part of the game, but it sucks when you have 2 guys who play the same position down and out. We could learn more before the game against CMU, but the best guess is we won't be seeing Pollard or Walker for a while. Edwin also has a bum knee, so let's hope he gets to the finish line!

Time for Mr. Avery to show us something. He will probably be getting around 20 min a night for the foreseeable future, so maybe he will get his footing.

Injuries suck. I believe last year mono kept us from winning outright MAC East title, and this year, we were winning division when the adversity hit. 03-banghead

I don't know the rules. Can X come back next year or is it too late to redshirt or whatever. I see we are still -1 in scholarships or what not on Verbal Commits so I would figure not?

Way too late for redshirts, medical or otherwise. Pollard has been key, too. Really a shame for him and the team.

Pollard and Walker are done for the year. I was sworn to secrecy until it became public, but alas, now everyone knows.

It's Joel's fault he made us switch to Under Armour.

Arrrg - 2 major contributors. That can be the difference between being a top-2 team in the MAC and the middle-of-the-pack.

And too bad for Xavier - he has no more eligibility. If he doesn't come back this year, he's played his last game.

I heard at the women's game. Nielson was talking to Warren and he was showing her the step Pollard took when he hurt himself. Besides looking a little ridiculous, I figured he wasn't showing the University President how he twisted his ankle and would be back in the line up soon.

Well... when one door closes another door usually opens. A good opportunity for some bench warmers to show their hand with this deal. 04-rock

It's going to come down to us and the Zits again. Dambrot would never wish the injuries upon us, but he knows it gives Akron the edge now. Rob really has his work cut out for himself now and he's got to figure out how to beat the dean of MAC coaches.

RE: Injuries -
Losing these two is obviously a big blow. They were probably our two best outside shooters on a team that struggles in that area.

With that said, we've still got players. Edwin was a big recruiting get for us and let's not forget that he didn't play basketball last year. Assuming his knee holds up I'm very confident that he can take the increased role in stride. Cancer has experience and is probably the best perimeter defender on the team and has a solid outside shot.

I think the toughest part of Pollard to replace will be his ability to penetrate. So far this year much of our offense has been Pollard and Thomas isolating up top and driving. So that means Thomas is going to have a lot more on his shoulders. He's the team leader I believe he can step up. Avery seems like more of a passing guard so maybe he can penetrate to create for the bigs. Time will tell but we don't need him to play at an All-Mac level. We just need him to be a solid backup PG.

Not sure if there is any plan to attempt to give Hurley minutes now that so many are available. Probably at least worth consideration unless they're trying to redshirt him. I would imagine the idea of pulling Alonzo Walker's redshirt has come up. This far into the year I wouldn't do it but that's an option.

But bottom line is, we have 4 guards for sure. Is that so bad? Hey, last year we only had three and we still won a share of the regular season title.

I feel bad for X. I've enjoyed watching him play, I love how hard he played, and the leadership he displayed. I hope he continues to play the leadership role from the bench and can be a good mentor for the young guys.

RE: Injuries -
I got the impression that Alonzo was more of a forward, and wasn't ready physically yet. Burning his redshirt wouldn't help much.

So at guard, we have a rotation of Thomas, Cancer, Edwin, with Avery; and Hurley and Fleming not getting many minutes. We'll need to play more of the big guys at the 3.

I'd love if Hurley could contribute. He's got good height, and I was hoping his experience at IMG would help at Kent State, but he's hardly played. He didn't look very strong to me.

Last year, we had Pollard, Edwin, Jones standing around before games, and they were joined by Thomas; and Hall was out for a bit, and we had a few one-game suspensions. This year, we're going to have just about as many not in uniform - Ridenour and A-Walker, now joined by J-Walker and Pollard. You got 13 scholarships, and having 4 not playing really hurts.

Haven't they tossed anyone off Acorn yet? They usually have a suspension by now.

I don't see that Rosel Hurley's played at all. Were they trying to redshirt him?

Rob said at a coaches luncheon in January that Hurley was being redshirted. He said they hadn't made an announcement because they weren't sure for a while, but that it was so late in the season it wouldn't be worth burning a year of Hurley's eligibility. Don't know if that would change now, but I doubt it.

I was worried that Hurley wasn't playing because he wasn't very good.

If we're down to Thomas, Cancer, Edwin, and Avery at guard and Avery is shooting 19% from the field this year, we may be in trouble. Fleming might get some real minutes. There's 10 games left on the schedule.

If Hurley is redshirted, we got 8 scholarship players to suit. I'm sure Chris Ortiz wouldn't mind playing guard. He likes shooting 3s, and he's up to 25% on 3s this year.

This is why he was being redshirted. If he was capable of helping he would be on the court.
