West Virginia to a geographically reasonable conference
Could you imagine if FSU, GT, VT, Louisville, Memphis, Cincinnati, Southern Miss & USF were all in the same conference?

Or this would be even better!

North -South
BC -East Carolina
Cincinnati -Florida State
Pittsburgh -Louisville
Rutgers -Memphis State
Syracuse -Miami
Temple -South Carolina
Virginia Tech-Southern Mississippi
West Virginia-Tulane

I like West VA in the SEC more than the ACC. They fit the profile of a football-oriented flagship but they have good basketball as well.

WVU could schedule their Pitt rivalry game OOC. That would work out well, too.

My only trepidation of them in the SEC: no history with those teams.

If the Big 12 were to dissolve, I think the ACC would be the first conference to issue the Mountaineers an invitation. With regional ACC schools nearby with whom West Virginia has history, the school fits that conference like a glove.

I think WVU leaving is the only way the Big XII dissolves.

If these moves happen, what becomes of the rest of the BIG XII:

WVU to the ACC
ISU to the Big 10

I assume the Red River rivalry moves as a unit to either the SEC or PAC-12. Where does everyone else land?

My sarcasm detector is on the fritz, so I just have to assume you are kidding.

I'll bite. Why would the Big 10 add Iowa St? They already have a presence in the state. They get ZERO additional TV dollars.

1. Iowa plays them in every sport every year.

2. Again, why would every Big 10 school LOSE money by adding Iowa State?

So other schools are supposed to lose money so this can happen?

How much would they actually lose? I genuinely don't know.

Expansion is about TV dollars. In addition to the ABC/ESPN contracts which expire after next season and will increase exponentially either through them or Fox, the Big Ten Network generates a fairly significant chunk of revenue. Generated primarily by increased carriage rates in state. Because these rates already are obtained in Iowa, they get ZERO money from adding Iowa State. As opposed to a state they have no presence in at this time.

A school such as Virginia as an example probably generates $20-25 million a year for the Big Ten Network if they were to be a Big Ten school (very rough math, it's late). Iowa State generates zero.

This is to say nothing of national TV contracts which aren't seeking to capture the Iowa market they already have. Rutgers added NYC TV eyeballs, and New Jersey Big Ten Network dollars. Maryland added Baltimore and DC TV eyeballs, and Maryland Big Ten Network dollars. Iowa State adds nothing.

Fair enough. I would prefer conferences have minimal footprint. If these teams will be treated as businesses, and make no mistake, once the athletes unionize, they will, profit will be paramount. Traveling is expensive.
