Big Ten Basketball (Jan 31st-Feb. 7th)
Any thoughts on the basketball season (past and upcoming)? As I'm typing this, Wisconsin is up a little on Illinois in the last game of the day. The games for the next week are as follows.

Tuesday:
#19 Indiana at Michigan

Wednesday:
Illinois @ Rutgers
Penn State @ #3 Iowa
#8 Maryland @ Nebraska

Thursday:
Ohio State @ Wisconsin
Minnesota @ Northwestern

Saturday
#12 Michigan State @ Michigan
Rutgers @ Nebraska
#21 Purdue @ #8 Maryland
#19 Indiana @ Penn State

Next Sunday
#3 Iowa @ Illinois

Current Standings
Indiana 8-1
Iowa 8-1
Maryland 8-2
Michigan 7-2
Purdue 7-3
Michigan State 6-4
Ohio State 6-4
Wisconsin 4-4
Nebraska 4-5
Northwestern 3-7
Illinois 2-6
Penn State 2-7
Rutgers 0-9
Minnesota 0-10

Penn State plays basketball? Who knew?

But seriously, thank goodness for Rutgers and Minnesota! Penn State basketball is always underachieving. The last couple of seasons, they have been respectable in non-conference games but can't be competitive against the conference. Penn State should be better at getting the Philadelphia, New York, Washington, D.C., and other talent. Granted, there are many more competitive basketball schools to fight with than football schools but Penn State has just as many, if not more, resources that they should have great dual-threat revenue sports (football and men's basketball).

Hey, this week against Illinois is the best chance for Rutgers to get a conference victory since beating No. 4 Wisconsin last January.

Conference should get 7 with a possibility of 8. The Cats have 15 wins remaining games with Minnesota, Illinois, Rutgers, Penn State & Nebraska. All but Penn State are at Welsh Ryan. If the Cats can split their remaining 10 conference games then the first ever tourney bid is a lock. No Big 10 team with 20 wins gets denied, a good chance with 19 wins but 20 does it for sure.

Rutgers might get a win against Illinois or Minnesota but honestly I think we're going 0-fer.

The odds are in our favor, so to speak. 03-weeping

Northwestern will be my surrogate team in the postseason. I would like to see the Wildcats go dancing for the first time in school history.

I would like it to. My money is on both Ohio State and Northwestern missing though.

As an Ohio State fan though, I'm actually OK with that for my team even though I'd love to see Northwestern make it. We've been it and honestly the most fun post-season I ever remember was the year we won the NIT. I'd obviously take a Final Four over that, but I don't think the Buckeyes would likely make it far in the tournament anyway.

Careful what you wish for. RU's pinnacle in the last couple of decades was a loss to Michigan in the NIT final (2004). I would take an NCAA appearance over an NIT title.

As an outsider, that 2007 Greg Oden team was fun to watch, and Ohio State had a more recent trip, IIRC.

And Rutgers decided it wanted to lose after all last night. I love Eddie Jordan and his passion for Rutgers over the years, but I'm just not sure he's the answer here.
