I'd be happy to see a change for the University and for Josh. And I'll pull for Pastner and Fuente next year.

Josh is not as great as some claim and not as bad as others claim. The truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Some schools could see Josh as a perfect choice at the perfect time.

He will land a job somewhere as a head coach, unless he chooses to take at shot at the NBA and is willing to accept an assistant coach position.

Really, Memphis fans should hope for the best. The guy has been an excellent representative and ambassador for the school. He is not a good coach, but it is not as if his intent to was to come in and not succeed at a high level. Hopefully he has a good job next season anywhere other than Memphis...

I pretty much feel the same way. JP as a person seems great, he is just not the right fit for our coaching job. Regardless, he has been a great ambassador an I hope he us successful if he is not coaching here next year. Same with Fuente, he took us out of the basement and put us in the national spotlight.

RE: Next Job fr Josh?
Everyone here is pulling for JP. Everyone, I truly believe that.

It's just Program > Coach.

I want Pastner to be successful, happy, and wealthy b/c he seems like a real decent human, an admirable thing and honestly worth more to him and his family than his ability to coach hoops.

But he's paid to win here. He has not won here at a level equal to expectations / compensation. That is a cold, hard fact.

I want him to win and I'd love it to be here. But if not, he leaves and I'll be a fan of his for the rest of his career and life while thanking him for the many good things accomplished here... and no need to be oblique, he's accomplished a ton here. We mock the APR thing, but it's real. Geron Johnson grew into a decent man on his watch. He graduates players. His teams share the ball and actually play together at times.

That's a hell of a legacy and these all count for a lot... just not enough.

It's not personal.
It's business.

I can’t see any D1 program wanting Pastner especially with an $8million (IIRC) buyout at season’s end. Plenty of better talented options out there who are much more budget friendly.

2020.

He doesn't have an 8 million dollar buyout. He has a 500k penalty for leaving anytime after April 2015 (not a buyout clause). If he leaves Memphis he is on his own to pay this or the other school pays it (500k). If he is fired, we owe him his salary until 2020.

That’s right I forgot about the penalty. We’ve been talking about buyout so much it was all I was thinking about, lol.

It's not your fault - even caulkins is incorrectly using the word "buyout" to describe what we would owe Pastner should he be fired.

A "buyout" is a pre-negotiated amount that is either used to keep someone from poaching your coach and/or paying out a coach for less than the total sum of the contract. What we would owe Pastner would just be the remainder of his contact, paid monthly, until 2020. Not really a buyout at all.

I would like to believe that, but based on some of the venomous vitriol spewed about how he is "fake," no character," "raped the program," etc., it's tough to buy into that. At least right now. Maybe feelings will soften when/if Josh moves on......

If Vandy fires Stallings I could see Josh being in that discussion, maybe. No clue if they let him go, but this will be his 4th straight year of missing the tourney and he has 3 NBA players on this year's team.

That would be great because there is no way Vandy would pay less than $1.5 million. But I can't see them wanting a coach who can't win the big games.

I say we try an even swap with Grand Canyon. We get Majerle, they get Josh and two tendonitis cases to be named later.

I've heard of one coach using tape of CJP a few years back against Louisville when he was mic'd telling a player that he loves him...as a punch line...LOL

The elite in city if they are listening it because of Lawson/Penny

Recruiting is the name of the game...CJP has said himself..game is about the "Jimmy's and Joe's"

You guys are going about it the wrong way. Instead of bashing everything he does you should be bending over backward to help him make the tournament. Have seen in more than one place that if we make the tournament that TCU is ready to offer him their HC position.

I think Josh would be great at it because he's a great manager of people. Chik Fil A is known for having some of the happiest employees so in sure Josh would fit right in!
