The University of Central Florida
Is out on the east end of Orlando, it's not even close to the center of Orlando let alone the center of Florida.

So shouldn't you be eastern Florida? UEF?

LOL is a usf fan really trying to say something about geography and the name of our school? Has to be a joke. UCF is pretty damn near the center of florida, whereas usf is no where close to what would be considered by any anyone as south florida. You're bad at this.

Its been explained a million times but UCF fans never want to acknowledge our name was historically based and they just copied ours since they are unoriginal in everything (look at their school colors... yep, borrowed half from USF)

Tampa was the southern most point that the legislature wanted to develop back in the 1950s. Back then, anything south was swamp and wasnt really developed other than Miami. Since a private college was already down there, they decided to make Tampa the southern most point of the public school system and we became the University of South Florida.

UCF was something stupid like Florida Technical but decided they didnt want to continue being nothing more than a glorified community college for the space program, so they dumped their gay mascot and their busch league name and decided to come up with something original.
WHen that didnt happen, they looked 80 miles to the west and decided to take our name but put Central in the middle.

So now they have a new name but need an identity.... so they decide on the Knights.... but alas what color should they be? So they looked 80 miles west and saw that USF was Green and Gold with white as our accent color... voila, they became the Golden Knights. (to this day they use gold and white...2 of our three primary colors)

So there is the story. Spread it far and wide.

Central-ish but usf isn't "south-ish" LOL blah blah blah about the southern most at the time. It was still really dumb to name a school no where near southern florida usf, end of story.

We are in the southern part of the state and as I said, its a historic name... ya know, with history. Something UCF doesnt have. thats why all your traditions, colors and such are all borrowed.
USF and Tampa actually have a real history. Were not a swamp that was converted into a Rat praising hell whole with a Magic castle.

I am fine with our name. As a former history teacher I like how it ties directly in with the growth of our state, the advancement of railroads and the poplation boom of the 60s.

usf is not located any where near the southern part of the state, sorry, so it's not a historic name, it's a stupid one.

Since fsu is garnett and gold did usf "steal" their colors lol and did you steal our idea to have a football team since we started one first? Which traditions did we "borrow" from usf exactly?

RE: The University of Central Florida
If our name is stupid, take it up with the legislature who designated it... and then you went off and copied it. How dumb are you?

and dude, you took 2 of our three colors. At least we have some distance between us and FSU... you are damn near on top of us and you couldnt come up with anything close to original. Hell, we had white and gold uniforms.

and if you take the state as a whole, yes, were in the southern half... in fact, when looking at the entire state, Tampa is actually closer to being the center than where UCF is located. That panhandle really throws things off. admit it, your name is just as stupid considering you are miles from being anywhere near the center. Youre closer to the atlantic.

No one copied anything, you can't honestly believe that. There are central, southern, eastern and western named university in many states and a lot of them were started before either of our schools. Did they all just "copy" each other LOL. So UCF "copied" usf because the schools are close but usf didnt "copy" FSU because they are a little further away? Your argument is invalid, try again. Bottom line is UCF is located centrally in the middle section of the state and usf is no where near south florida, so usf is not indicative of the location of your university. You yourself just said usf is central lol

Given your reasoning regarding the borrowing or copying of school colors and names, I assume you would agree that IF usf was ever to build an on campus stadium it would just be copying UCF because ya know we built one first and our schools are close together.

That's some really interesting information. I always wondered how in the world USF got its name. Thanks for posting that, MT.

And whomever said it, Florida Tech does sound pretty cool...04-cheers

Be careful what information you get from mtmedlin. He'd claim the sky is green if it meant proving that George O'Leary was a big meanie.

So, in my opinion, there seems to be an imaginary line just north of Orlando where the weather year around is much warmer south of the line. I've seen it in the 30's in the panhandle while 72 in St Pete.
