Southern Miss: Alcorn State head coach Jay Hopson has been named head coach at Southern Miss.

He has been an assistant at Southern Miss 2 different times.

They must not have liked the way Clark interviewed. Ha.

Not splashy but could be a solid hire. Deep Mississippi roots.

Their top choices (aside for Clark) all used SMiss to get raises...

Thank God they have finally found a coach. I don't know what I'm more tired of hearing; Clark to USM or MU & Fouls.

Sounds like the kind of solid hire they have needed to make since Bower. Should have deep recruiting roots over there. I'm sure his goal will be to close the MS JUCO door. State and Ole Miss don't play jucos like they used to, so.....

People in Mississippi know this was a good hire. A proven coach at a smaller level and has deep deep roots in the state at a time when Mississippi recruiting has never been better.

It's a good hire.

It's not one that's going to make headlines across the country or anything, but I like it. If he's able to make use of the recruiting roots I've been reading about then he's going to be big for them. I think he'll be great helping them get back to where they want to be in football.

With his deep ties to the state, maybe similar to what we got when we hired Clark, not known much outside of state and spent his entire time here in the state.

Hope they do well except against us. Having better competition in the conference that can and should win it OOC games will only help conference and hopefully make our win against them look better.
