I was very happy to see Mency hit his shots today. But he has struggled this year, period. Its not a first half vs. second half thing. And it is not obvious to me that he needs to shoot more. So far this year, he has missed an awful lot of three point shots where he was open and had plenty of time to set. Even after today, Mency is 16-75 from three on the season (and only shooting 30% overall). Obviously, it would be great if he starts scoring more. But shooting lots of threes won't help us if he only makes 20% of them.

He's struggled this year but he's a guy who has to be on the floor for both defensive and offensive purposes. He's a guy who kept us in games last year because of his shooting and his defense has been overlooked this year (in our win against UC Riverside he held a guy averaging 17 points to a 4-18 shooting night). He shot 34% from 3 last year so we know he can shoot, he's just been in a tough stretch. Plus he's hitting 30% from deep in his last 9 games as opposed to 17% from deep in his first 9 games. As long as he's taking good/open looks I still want him shooting the ball.

And then there were 7...
I trust Rhoades to play the productive players from practice. BUT Amir threw down a monster jam in warmups. Off the backboard. Kid has some athleticism. We need to do a midnight madness next year

Mency has struggled mightily on offense this year but his defense shouldn't be questioned. He played the best defense on the team hands down. If he can start hitting his shots or start driving to the basket and hit his FTs I'm fine with 10 ppg from him.

Channel 11 was there, and aired a nice story at 10:00 pm. The video feed was early, though, and the student section was not yet full like the second half.
Chronicle also had 18 column inches by Cory Roepken. Coogs got about 6 inches with their wire service road report from East Carolina.
When this team is winning consistently, it will get the coverage.

Not true. Channel 11's Matt Musil (sp?) had a report with video. He also did a report on Rice baseball with a WG interview.

It was a great atmosphere and the students did a great job with cheering. I feel like we now have enough presence consistently at Tudor to say that we have a homefield advantage. That wasn't always the case in recent years. This team definitely plays better at Tudor and that's great to see.

Yes, Mency's shooting percentage has increased recently. His three point attempts have also decreased from approx. 4 per game early in the season to about 2.5 per game recently. Maybe there was a plan to have him pass more and shoot less, at least while his shot was not falling. Maybe that plan worked.
