Rutgers subsidy drops to $23.8M with Big Ten revenue
http://www.app.com/story/sports/college/.../79332824/

Quote:Rutgers received a partial share of $9.4 million in Big Ten membership revenue; that amount is still greater than the former payouts from being part of the American Athletic Conference ($9.2 million) or previously the Big East. A full share reportedly is about $32 million.

Big Ten expansion members must go through a six-year integration phase, and Rutgers will not receive a full revenue share until June 2021. Those paychecks helped allow four Big Ten schools to operate without a subsidy in 2014 and another five to have a subsidy of less than $4 million.

“We point forward to that time of full membership," Hobbs said, "where – we are not going to be awash money – but we can look forward with confidence that we are going to be in the black.”

I look forward to this upward trend. Everyone concerned with Rutgers athletics should donate to the Big Ten Build. rutgersbigtenbuild.com/

Why does the B1G require a 6 year "integration phase"? It seems to me that Rutgers, as a B1G, deserves more than what they are getting.

My understanding of it is that Nebraska, Rutgers and Maryland all have the elongated, graduated payment schedules as their buy-in for their share of ownership in the Big Ten Network. Now Maryland got a big upfront payment that neither Nebraska nor Rutgers was receiving, but that was to offset the ACC exit fees.

I know that is how Nebraska and Rutgers is doing theirs, but Maryland took a little different route. They are essentially borrowing ahead by taking a full share now in order to help offset their ACC debts.

RE: Rutgers subsidy drops to $23.8M with Big Ten revenue
Well it's not really with B10 Revenue. Our payout in 2014-2015 was slightly more than we got in the Big East/American. There was a lot of one time debt related to our move from the American that hit the books in 2013-2014, so the subsidy went down substantially for 2014-2015. We also had a big boost in football ticket sales with the Big 10 schedule, but that's not related to the conference payout.

I really was hoping for West Virginia to take the Big East to court over its exit. I think WVU would have won the battle and would proved the conference to be illegitimate. That would have allowed Pitt, Syracuse, UL and Rutgers to walk away unharmed.
