If you can’t win regular season games against ranked opponents or NCAAt games then your seasons have little chance to be successful.

Nailed it. It comes down to two things: beating ranked opponents and winning in the tournament. He is horrible at both of those things. And our program is irrelevant because of it.

I wish it were only that. Is ECU ranked? Lemoyne-Owen? Do normal teams lose 5 out of 6 players they recruit in a single year to transfers? Do normal Tiger crowds at the Forum look like ECU crowds at Minges Coliseum?

He wouldn't be performing up to par if his only shortcomings were going 6 for 33 against ranked and/or tournament teams (1 for 21 outside of 2013-14). But with all that other stuff added to it (and even taking into account good grades and no sanctions on the positive side), we have become the proverbial dumpster fire of college basketball programs, certain ESPNU announcer's perspectives notwithstanding.

Of course, a dumpster fire in bb for us is a .500 season whereas at a place like UTK it's a 7-10 win season. So there it that.....

At some point you do reach a floor. Memphis can probably never go 6-24 in basketball just because of buy games and our inherent advantages over conference mates, though josh is slowly whittling those away.

We still have great fan support compared to most schools, great facilities, NBA arena, and are one a few good programs that play in an NBA city (to my mind, UCLA, georgia tech, boston college, georgetown, several philly schools i guess)

Probably can add Maryland, Villanova, SMU and Miami/USC (at least this year) in that group now as well.
