Hoops CAA halfway point
halfway through the conference season JMU is about where we thought they would be - tied for 3rd and one game out of first. The route to that position has been very strange though. 2-3 at home and 4-0 on the road. The 3 CAA home losses match JMU's total for all of last year.
With a win at William & Gary on Sunday the Dukes would be 3-1 against the top 4 contenders in the CAA and in good position to win tiebreakers. It is another big game. While seeds won't matter a tremendous amount in Baltimore, #1 and #2 will get to play an easier first game against a weaker and tired team coming out of the #7 vs #10 and #8 vs #9 Friday night games.

The biggest CAA surprise so far? Northeastern. They have fallen apart with Quincy Ford out of the lineup. I doubt they go 4-5 in the 2nd half of the regular season when he returns.

UNC Wilmington 7-2 15-5
Hofstra 7-2 15-6
James Madison 6-3 16-6
William & Mary 6-3 14-6
Towson 6-3 15-7
Charleston 5-4 13-7
Northeastern 4-5 12-10
Elon 3-6 12-10
Drexel 1-8 3-17
Delaware 0-9 5-15

Northeastern has only played the last 2 games without Quincy Ford that doesn't account for the other 3 losses on game he did play.
I also think Charleston has been a surpris, especially with how strong they've looked even without Canyon Barry.

We just need to find the juice NE drank when they beat Miami. It appears they only had one dose.

The silver lining in every loss besides WVU is that the final score has been close. You don't see 28 point loses like W&M experienced against Hofstra. That indicates to me that this team competes every game. The way things were going on Thursday, it would have been easy to just go through the motions that night. Instead, the Dukes were two possessions away from tying the score after being down 15 with less than 5 minutes to play.

I think too much is being made of home losses. A loss is a loss. Who cares where it takes place. I was more concerned about how Yo Yo's free throw shooting struggles spread through the team. Air balls from the foul line? None of us expected our best post player to have the struggles he has had this year from the foul line. I do not recall any signs of it last year.

There are going to be bad shooting nights. When they happen, you need to get in the lane more often for easier shots, play good defense and rebound. I honestly believed JMU was the better team Thursday but I am a homer so take it with a grain of salt.

Then please don't ever complain about a lack of fans inside the Convo. People want to go see their team win. A team can be 10 - 10 (with 10 home games) and all their wins be at home and draw a bigger crowd than if that same team is 15 - 5 and the five losses all be a home. Of course this is just my opinion and the way I behave.

This team could finish anywhere between 1st and 5th in my opinion. With the three point play they have an opportunity to win every/any game, even a first round NCAA game, but on the flip side if the 3's are not falling this team can be beaten by not so good teams.

This team in way better than the one 3 years ago.

Yep, it was the only upset today and they are in a tailspin ever since Quincy Ford got injured.
Hofstra trailed the whole game against Drexel except the last 5 minutes.

The winner of tomorrow night's game remains one game out of 1st. The loser will be in 5th place and have to dig out of a hole.
We need to see Ron Curry drive the lane and initiate offense from the get go. If he can get Cohn in foul trouble, the Tribe doesn't have a viable backup PG. That would open up man pressure opportunities for Brady.
