Before you guys spend any more time analyzing our coaches ability, ya might try getting a grip on your current head coach's ability.
See you at Waldo this fall....Any bettors willing to make a small wager ???????
Boys, have a nice day...
No one has ever questioned Creighton's ability to coach (except you). EMU is the toughest FBS coaching job in America for a wide variety of reasons ( U of M shadow, commuter school, lack of tradition) that are unique to EMU. I'd take Chris Creighton as a pure X and Os guy and on character any day. What you see is what you get with CC. Straight no chaser. Fleck may be a better sales person and may have an easier sale than CC. I asked him once about Fleck using the term used car salesman. CC the class act he is refused to comment and let the comment pass and we moved on conversation wise. I'm not concerned about CC.
Enjoy your nap and your milk and cookies little Johnny.
The situation, as I see it, is a big more complicated.
English left a program which had talent but was mired in losing. I think it is safe to say that the players 'underachieved.' There were years of losing and then the death of a player under unfortunate, shocking circumstances.
CC has not performed any 'miracles' with the talent he inherited or recruited.
As suggested (if I may) by EagleTough, the coaching on the defensive side of the ball was not as good as it could have been.
So what do we have in Year Three of CC: Improved coached (and a much, much more favorable schedule) but less talent????
In human sciences there was the great 'nature/nurture' debate (hint: it is both). In sports it is both (nature, i.e., God-given talent and nurture, i.e., coaching and development).
I'd suggest that Year Three is critical for CC's recruiting. Eventually one has to out recruit your peers (e.g., WMU, TOL, CMU, NIU, BSU, etc.) at least some times. Being consistently out recruited is a recipe for failure.
God knows we need success. It has been 20 years since we had a men's basketball coach recruited away for a better job (that would be both Waters and Braun) and 22 years in football (Cooper was recruited away from us by Louisville).
Men's basketball and football have been total revolving doors for the past 20 years.
I would argue we have more talent this year than last despite not much difference between English's recruiting rankings and CC's. We've redshirted more under CC in my opinion which in the long term will help the program. We had some bad injuries last year on defense O Conner, Zappone, Harris and Calderon. Hopefully all are back in full health by the time the season starts.

Yeah be glad because all those big 10 types on your hoops team ain't doing the job. Lets see if Fleck can take those big recruiting rankings and translate his recruiting dominance to on the field dominance. Haven't seen it yet.

Rankings are really meaningless. Data can be manipulated anyway you want in order to provide the preferred results. Ask Trump.

RE: 2017 Football Recruiting
two names at the WR spot that EMU may be interested in:
JUCO Ryan Markush graduates May 2016
JUCO Nick Karsseboom for next year
