Coach Haase said there was a lot of emotion from the team in the locker room after the WKU game. We'll have a motivated bunch headed into Huntington.

Marshall, UAB, and Charlotte are all playing good ball right now, but I stand by my opinion of Marshall playing the best at this particular moment. Hopefully on Saturday, UAB takes them out of that conversation.

it is great to have niners and marshall fans around here during basketball season.
I'm missing my ODU fans around here. 05-stirthepot

watching UAB vs WKU game last night and one thing stood out: how the heck did WKU coach let his 7ft skinny forward attempt dribbling through traffic time after time? I think he turned the ball over every single time he tried to dribble the ball.
is he a freshman, WKU fan?

Diaz vs. Uchebo is the reason Charlotte got separation in the 2nd-half.

Big Joe got in early foul trouble and sat the final 12:29 of the first half, at that point he was 1/2 from the floor. He came back in the second half and went 6/10. Diaz went off in the first half, going 5/6 from the field, but in the second 2/4. Diaz biggest flaw is related to his biggest strength, shot blocking.

Diaz had 8 blocks last night, 6 of those rebounds went to Charlotte, 4 of them were blocked out of bounds, and Charlotte scored 8 points on those 4 extended possessions. There is a ton of value in having a dominant shot blocker, but he needs to block with control and get possession back to the Panthers. He would help his team more by keeping his arms up and forcing a miss which gives his team a better chance at rebounding.

For Marshall to keep winning and playing well it will come down to one thing, ball movement. As much as I like Stevie Browning and CJ Burkes in the 1st 6 games there was hardly any ball movement at all when they were sharing PG duties. We would bring the ball down the court, pass the ball 2-3 times and shoot, sometimes jacking up shots that had no chance of going in. Since Elmore became eligible we have not only been passing the ball more we've had more crisp passing.

UAB's at-large chances went from slim to "on life support" last night.

Don't think anyone in C-USA had at-large chances but some refuse to believe.

Big Joe is my favorite player in CUSA. He's averaging 16 rebounds over the past 10 games!

Great observation, so many guys go for block that will make the nightly Top 10 versus getting possession. It really is a lost art.

the tre/long rebounds coupled with the shot clock and quick transition game has changed a few things in strategy....the 'controlled block' is another one where increased testosterone overwhelms 'coaching strategy' at times.....

it's just the way the game is these days....and I still remember when princeton almost beat Ewing that day....the back-door was almost the perfect david-goliath scenario

too many now that are bigger, faster, stronger....

Winning streaks in C-USA have been broken 3 out of the 4 weeks we've had of conference play. We sure the C in C-USA doesn't stand for chaos?

05-nono Seems like you might be looking at overall records and not really at how teams are playing RIGHT NOW.

We went 3-1 on the road and just absolutely dominated MTSU to the point where we played scrubs the last 7 minutes and still won by 16. Yes we lost to you and still managed to score 95 in your place. You played lights out, no doubt, and seem to be very good. I'm not making the call as to which is playing the better basketball but he certainly wasn't only looking at records. We've earned the right to be in the conversation for more than being 7-1.

No one said you weren't "in the conversation". However, the previous poster (to whom I was referring) said "Marshall is definitely playing the best basketball of anyone in the league". Not sure the "definitely" part is accurate.

That is the conversation to which I was referring. And the part where you said they were just seeing the record. I'll just leave it at we're both playing some damn good ball. We looked like the globetrotters playing a high school team the other night and the kids were having a lot of fun. That's exciting when your players are smiling and making things look effortless. Could really tell how much they grew up in that road stretch. I'm still impressed they lost to Charlotte, lost their charter, hopped on a bus in the middle of the night ahead of a storm, and went into ODU and pulled out a squeaker. These guys have character and heart.

I also think some teams just match up better against some other teams. I think that's why we have so much parity in league. Lots of different playstyles and some will beat others based on that. I am anxious to see how we match up against UAB. Good luck to you guys today.

Great Post! The conference tournament is going to be incredible. There are a number of teams that could win it. Marshall and Charlotte are playing really good ball right now but I have been impressed with others, including FIU the other night. ODU has the talent to win this thing as do others. While our teams aren't world beaters, I have enjoyed watching the conference matchups. This has been a really fun season. UAB has to love that they are hosting the conference tournament. Quite an advantage. Maybe the rest of us should take a harder look at hosting.

I heard some guys on ESPN Radio talking about this when it comes to Hasaan Whiteside down in Miami. They were talking about how he is trying to block everything to the point that it hurts the overall defense, and the numbers show that Miami is actually a better defensive team when he is on the bench.
