RE: What changes have you made to your Football Staff?
Still an open question at Charlotte. Of course you know that Phil Ratliff, our OL coach, passed away unexpectedly this year. And now Napoleon Sykes, our Outside Linebackers coach is going to Navy as their Assistant DL coach. This is a nice promotion for Coach Poe, and he did a great job in his four years at Charlotte, so we wish him well. We might seem him back at Charlotte at some point in the future. I guess the bottom line is we have a couple of slots to fill, and maybe the transitions (and possible transitions) in C-USA will send some talent our way.

Our running backs coach was let go, but we haven't replaced him.

Our strength and conditioning coach, Scott Sinclair, headed to UGA. He was replaced by Luke Day who was the assistant strength coach for the Bengals. Prior to that he also worked with Sinclair at UCF in 2012-2013.

We've kind of been plugging in new coaches for awhile now as assistants have been taking bigger jobs under Doc. I believe Barclay, our former running backs coach, is only the 2nd coach to be let go by Doc. Chris Rippon DC, being the other.

- DB coach to USC. Replaced with DB coach from Texas Tech who was at Tech '10-'12... push
- RB coach who coached HS in New Orleans to Texas Tech. Replaced with Grambling's RB coach who coached in New Orleans... push.

Don't we need an OC also? How about ST?

I have no idea what changes we've made, but definitely three opening, including a HC opening which could lead to others.

There are options at OC. Holtz is really the OC, but if he can find a really talented coach, he could name him OC to give him a good salary (like Petersen). Otherwise, he could just find a WR coach and label Rattay or Sloan OC. Doesn't look like we will have coach for ST again.

I can live without an OC but I don't think I could go another season with a half decent special team. We lost so many games last year due to our special team.

You forgot to mention that former Eastern Kentucky HC Dean Hood joined the staff as Assistant HC and TE Coach.

I liked Rattay and his style of play....he was another of those that went 'unnoticed' ....will be interesting to follow how that lends to this part of his life....I like the underdogs that are fighters....he's one of 'those' that I believe become future leaders....

it is a warm sign for Tech fans to see one of our legends coaching on the sideline.

A LOT! We kept our head coach -- that is about it! I think at last count, we've lost six assistants.

Yep. The fact that none of Rice's coordinators or assistants have been hired away by a P5 or even a better G5 program in the last few years should tell you something. Regardless of what anyone thinks of Coach Bailiff, Rice doesn't spend the money on coordinators and assistants to retain them for prolonged periods of time unless no one else wants them.
