I'll respond to him. He needs to check his facts and stfu. Penny never lost to Jackson St. That happened after he left. So a former player of Finch cares more about Josh than his own coach. No wonder we lost to Drexel. Now put that in your damn Canadian pipe and smoke it

Where do you deduce that he cares less about his own coach? He refers to "great coaches" after talking about the JSU loss.

He has some valid comments. I don't agree with him on all of them - and he did get the JSU thing wrong. But there is a good point there about how some react when adversity hits.

And, stfu? Not hardly. Dude has as much of a right to talk as you or any of us on here.

Well, he also said "they lost to ECU...it happens" which on the surface is an okay statement.

Does it happen in back to back years though? Shouldn't at Memphis.

Wilson is an authority on playing on underachieving teams for sure. From 5 minutes away from a number one ranking in either late December or January to two months later a beatdown against Drexel. Bless his heart he probably still has nightmares about Malik Rose. I'm still waiting on Derrick Chew and Simplice Njoya to weigh in

Thanks, Michael Wilson

By the way ECU just beat Temple

He also says Penny shouldn't want the job. Could go from most loved to hated. Yep.

So Michael Wilson, someone who has never coached or played in the NBA or talked to Penny recently is more knowledgeable about things because WHY?

Because from what I can tell his viewpoint is the same as ours, from behind a TV screen. And Wilsons statement about Izzo being the only coach who develops players is just ignorant.

That comment alone makes it hard to take his opinion seriously. The only assumption I can make is that he just does not watch much basketball...

Probably not as relevant since none of them played here.

Interesting that you choose to mock a former player who played for the Harlem Globetrotters. Says a lot.

The Drexel loss was tough, and was 1 of the 2 nails in the coffin for Finch. But you may be downplaying Wilson's contributions a bit (shocking). And his "underachieving team" was a Chris Garner hand-check away from an Elite 8.

I respect his opinion.

But to begin with, he's wrong - a Penny team never lost to Jackson State - that was the year after Penny.

There you go. All you need to know here.

Of course the last time Penny's team played JSU the Tigers had to work their asses off to escape with a 3 point win at the Pyramid.

Was in the infield at Memphis Motorsports Park that night listening to that game when i was not running. The phantom foul as they called it.

Everyone is so angry around here. Josh knows what he's doing. Have a little faith. There's no need to talk about a new coach coming in

No need to talk about it, just announce Pearl's start date. That would eliminate the Jonesing.

RE: Classic
I think:

1. Wilson was a well loved Tiger and that earns him rope.
2. He was a contributor on a S16 team, correct? I can dig that.
3. His opinion that teams have adversity and you should show loyalty to your players, program, coach, and team is well placed.

Still:

1. Pastner's tenure at the program is trending down.
2. I don't think Wilson has the standing to tell Penny what the do, same as I don't have the standing to criticize Wilson... In this equation of 'Opinions on Memphis hoops" it's Penny > Wilson > Me.

It's not a bad take in general, but while we are not used to winning championships, that is the goal of every program. We're not currently competing for that consideration.

It is totally acceptable to be a tough out in the NCAAs that earns respect and doesn't often get past the S16. It really isn't that acceptable to go 6,7,8 years without a second weekend appearance.

We should support Pastner until he is no longer the HC, afterall our interests currently align. Win. But if the powers that be decide to make a move, there is data to support same.

Here is hoping we win out from here until April and a National Title and we can get back to what we do best, coach worship 03-wink
