The arena it's being played in is actually bigger than the Royal Farms arena in Baltimore, so it won't look better on TV.

It will significantly, as others have indicated, cut down on W&M fan attendance as the Baltimore arena, of course, was easy access for Tribe alums and students in DC, Richmond and Williamsburg areas.
Charleston is a wonderful city to visit...great hotels and inns to go with terrific restaurants and lots of history and shops.
Very good move by the CAA.
I think the arena in NoCha seats 14,000 so it's larger than Baltimore. They're only going to get 4,000 to 5,000 to show up to any games anyway, so no matter where you have it, it's going to look empty.

Sure Charleston is nice. North Charleston is a **** hole. The location isn't really improving.

N. Charleston is essentially like having this at the Hampton Coliseum. Nothing but strip malls and a run-down surrounding area. Historic Charleston is 10 miles away. Much more fun to keep it in a downtown setting thats walkable and allows pre and postgame celebrating.

TD Arena on downtown would be great, but it would be almost impossible to get the other AD's to agree. So north charleston it is

N. Charleston is one of the worst areas in the US. With a crime index of 3, it is safer than 3% of the cities in the country.

I take back everything I said. My props were all based on the game being downtown.

I now have the same reaction. Can't stay near the arena and there isn't much up in North Charleston other than poor people. That's too bad.

Actually the arena is in a very nice area. At least 5 huge motel/hotels immediately around it. All have free shuttle rides to downtown which is a ten minute drive except at rush hour.

Agree with swampcougar. I would argue the N Charleston Coliseum is in a much better place, safety wise, than Royal Farms arena in Baltimore. There are surely some god awful places in N Charleston but the area surrounding the Coliseum is definitely not one.

I'll miss hitting Pratt St. Pub before and after games. Will have to research bars near the coliseum.

RE: CAA Tourney moving to Charleston in 2017
I went to the 2006 SoCon tournament at the North Charleston Coliseum. It isn't much smaller than the arena in Baltimore.
Don't confuse CoC's beautiful, small arena with the North Charleston Coliseum, also don't confuse Charleston with North Charleston.
North Charleston has all the charm of Hampton.
I go for the hoops and watch every game, so I don't care about sightseeing opportunities. I have made several work and play trips to Charleston already, so I will go for the hoops and only the hoops next March.
For me, it is much, much easier to drive to Charleston for the tourney than it was to go to Baltimore, but for the league, I think this is a short sighted move.
I guess I should be happy for the Tribe, because this move is worse for our northern rivals fans than for most Tribe fans. The big winners are CoC and UNCW.

I am really looking forward to the tourney. Still have not got us a hotel room yet. We stayed at the Marriott Inner Harbor last year but they do not even have rooms right now. And it seems like the really nice places are really price gouging this year. I think that I am going to just bide my time for several weeks and maybe go the Trivago, Priceline, etc. route, figuring that I might be able to get a deal for three nights once some of these places realize that they might have some rooms on their hands. I have never used a site like Priceline before.

Priceline is great for the Inner Harbor. You can bid for Inner Harbor 4* hotels and start around $80. After a bid or two it will start to guide you. There are about seven 4* in the area. You can't control which one you get, but they are all nice. I got the Marriott Waterfront last year for $95.

I thought that I remembered that was what you did. Did you wait until February to bid? Just wondering if the deals get a bit better the closer you get to the date.
