RE: Trayson Burrell disappoints me
I never said I sign off on him acting like a baby - the team won, get your butt off the bench and act like a grown man.
THAT BEING SAID, I get why he was upset. Should've handled it better, but taking him out was a clown move.

If I was coaching he wouldn't not have gone back in and done about 200 wind sorints today. I'm his biggest supporter but a coach can't tolerate that crap. It's like a cancer-it spreads amongst other players once they see very little consequences to doing it.
It also disrespects your teammates as they are winning and you are pouting.

See that is where I have a problem with Pastner, he will allow a player (Crawford) who does nothing on Offense mistakes or otherwise play but if a marginal player tries he gets pulled.
Last night Crawford did try to shoot and missed to 3's and got pulled, I bet he learned his lesson and will go back to playing hot potato when he gets the ball again.
If high risk plays/shots were criteria for benching, Dedric would never see the floor. Can he dunk? He misses more 2-3 ft bunnies than any Tiger I've ever seen; also pull up fast (?) break threes with no rebounders within the circle area.
But Burrell's daddy aint sitting on that bench. Also, DLaw is Pastner's chance to show he can shepherd a one-and-done to the NBA, so put up those numbers big fella!
There is no way that Lawson gets in the first round. Too many deficiencies in his game without the potential.
I completely agree, but I dont know that Pastner sees that.

Haven't we already been through crap like this with JJ? Deja vu all over again.

RE: Trayson Burrell disappoints me
That fact that Burrell is one of our best players is a sign of how far the program has fallen. He reminds of the caliber players that Southern Miss, UAB, Tulsa, UCF, etc. have. He wouldn't sniff a roster on a Top 25 type program. And yet, a lot of people on here celebrate him and act like he's really good.
If Burrell and Woodsen and guys like that fill your roster, then you are what you are: Southern Miss circa the mid 2000s: Not pathetic but not relevant or good, either.

Burrell is one the the better offensive players on this team, one of a very few that can create his own shot and is a decent finisher which, unbelievably, many of our perimeter players CAN"T do.

KE, do you think a high level team wouldn't benefit from a player such as Burrell in their 7-8 man rotation. I'm not saying he is a world beater, but it seems he could contribute instant offense on an NCAA contending type team.
Am I wrong? Have my eyes started to go in my advanced age?
Just asking since you are closer to the subject matter. On a top 25, but sub top 10 team, where would a player like Burrell fit in the pecking order as a senior?
No snark, just want to explore this point a little.
Thanks man.

When he's on, he's on. But when he's not, Burrell is a skinnier and an even more out of control version of Will Barton.

We're comparing him to a player putting up points in the league?
So he's somewhere between:
- UAB end of bench type
- Top of rotation NBA player (to be fair, on a bad team).
Seems like a big Delta.
Again, I don't think he has Barton's quality, but it seems an apt comparison in body type and control level, even is their game attributes differ a big deal.
Again, I'll defer to the AAU coach here, I'm just a fan, but he seems good enough to contribute.

If TB plays enough to score 25 per game, his man will score 40 per game.

The other options are Crawford and Woodson. Crawford, admittedly, is a better defender, but won't shoot. Woodson averages a better 3P%, but gets lit up defensively just as much. TB averages better numbers than Woodson in pts, rebs, assists, FT, blocks and the same number of steals while averaging fewer minutes. I feel like TB should be getting more minutes unless Woodson is simply unconscious from 3 like he was in the 1st half of the UCF game.

I agree that they all have their flaws. It somewhat comes down to who is playing well that day. You can also play two of these - play Burrell at the 3 with Tarrant at the 1, and a combo of DLaw/Shaq/Marshall at the 4/5. Burrell does a lot of good things and brings lots of energy. I must say that Woodson has really been shooting well lately and seems to have gotten better at driving and mid-range.

Burrell is a CBB high major starter on offense. Don't have to be an AAU coach to see that. He is an eighth man type on D even though he rebounds well for his size and blocks shots. Doesn't put effort in on D end.

That's kind of the way I see it. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.
I agree. There are times when he makes some plays which make me scratch my head, but I do feel comfortable with him on the floor. His upside outweighs the downside, in my opinion.
Agree with your agreement. He's a + player and needs to have more rope. DL is also a + player, and he gets the correct amount of rope. It is one of the more frustrating things about CJP. I noticed it when JJ and CC were freshmen. JJ got yanked and CC was allowed to play through.
Regardless, seniors don't need to be pouting on the bench.
