The ones that pay the big bills love him

I guess we have conflicting info then.

The media's really pushing it.

Never forget that the days of media as self appointed watchdogs and purveyors of truth are over. Their job is to out sensationalize, stir up, and do whatever it takes to get listeners, eyeballs, clicks, etc.

Nailed it!

Calkins today said if he had to pick the turning point in the past 7 years, it was the insanely bad game against UConn in the conference tourney at Memphis.

That was one of the two Tigers games I've seen in the past two years, and he's right. For those who were there, you know the air went out of that building in a collective funk.

Oh, and the other game I saw was Wichita State six months later, enough said, and completely embarrassing.

I was at that uconn game. So painful

One of the biggest debacles ever. Hosting the tourney and get blown out in the first game.

Sad

It's not likely, but hey, no one here would complain about his saving his job if it came attached with a big tourney run.

check that...

I was there and that' the only game that I walked out on. That was the turning point for me as well.

It's not that hard to figure out who Calkins was talking about

RE: "Not inevitable"
Say that he stays another year. He will "inevitably" be gone after next year - with the roster and the attendance and the media, we will lose big. So they delay the buyout by one year and save spending a year's salary of $1.5M or so on the next coach. Ticket sales are a separate bucket, but how much is that going to cost the university - to save $1.5M on a salary? That's the thing. You don't have to justify the whole $10M buyout in one year. You have to look at the lost revenue over the next 4 years.
