Winning 2 of 3 on the road against a CUSA team is solid IMO.

I agree, this is a solid start. Good to see the pitching hold up and hear the bats crack for the Tribe. Not pencilling in the playoffs yet, but neither crying the blues.

I believe Liberty beat us today. Last I checked, they were up 8-4.

Very good win for the Tribe this afternoon...scored three in the eighth to tie it, 5-5, and Smith's sac fly won it in the bottom of the ninth, 6-5. Gould's two-run double to tie it the big hit in the comeback inning.

Terrific relief pitching over five scoreless innings by three W&M hurlers.

Doesn't appear to be a pitching duel in this game vs holy cross. Both teams going back and forth tacking on runs. Tribe up right now 12-10 in the 7th.

Tribe sweeps with another come-from-behind win, 13-12. Large 3-run HR big blow in 7th inning. Gould goes 3 for 3 and is hitting .348.

Great series for the Big Green.

Team now 5-2.

Pitching is weak. I don't think Holy Cross is a powerhouse and they lit us up all weekend.

Let's hope for some young guys to step up.

RE: 2016 Tribe Baseball
Pitching is still settling, but we do appear to have several decent relief pitchers who have performed well so far
and did against Holy Cross. Large and Gould, on the offensive side, appear to be poised for big seasons and team has shown more home run punch than we expected.

Big game today at defending NCAA champ UVA before heading out on 7-game road trip visit to California
where we play some very good West Coast teams.

This 8 game road trip should tell us something about our starting pitching.

Maybe defense is the team's weakness. 4 errors on Sunday and 5 so far against UVA today.

Six errors doomed team in 16-8 loss. Seven unearned ru8ns for UVA in first inning.

Lots of hits for our guys, but bad defense and pitching.

RE: 2016 Tribe Baseball
The left side of the infield (third and short) have committed 11 errors in 8 games; the team as a whole has only turned one double play this season while the opponents have turned 6. The pitching has not been bad; they don't walk many but they don't miss many bats either which means a lot of balls are put in play for their defense to handle. I would guess that along with the errors made on plays that are hit to them that the defense's range is also responsible for some of the hits that count against the pitcher's stat line.

The hitting doesn't have a lot of fire power but they compensate with their ability to get on-base (.392 obp buoyed by 11 hbp).

RE: 2016 Tribe Baseball
While we've all been watching the Tribe basketball team agonize us over the weekend a glance at the baseball team out west in California doesn't provide us with much to cheer about.

After absorbing the 16-8 pasting at UVA, the team has played two games of its 8-game California tour with awful pitching again the dreary headline: 13-3 loss to Oregon State and, yesterday, a 9-3 drubbing at San Diego State.

We appear to have no pitching, starting and middle relief being the worst. None. If things continue this way
it will be a long season.

RE: 2016 Tribe Baseball
I'll be happy with 20 wins this season. We've pretty much won the ones we should have and lost the ones we should have after the series with Charlotte. Maybe we should have won against Liberty.

We're going to get killed by the good CAA teams.

I'll go on record to say that until we pay the head coach a decent salary we're going to have some good years and some bad ones. Murphy's only head coaching experience is with the Tribe. They guy who we lost to Oklahoma was the real deal.

Need Brown to get it together. If not, our starters' average ERA might be over 10

They got a split at USD. Bear in mind that the teams we are playing out here are good. Northridge just hit for 20 runs in a big win over # 14 UCLA. That's some offense. In any event major props to the team for coming out here. It would be great if next year they got a series with Long Beach State, cal state Fullerton, or UC, Irvine. Or maybe USC or UCLA?

Team walloped again yesterday, this time by Cal-Northridge, 11-3 in another pitching meltdown. Opponents are batting .340 against our pitchers FOR THE SEASON thus far!

Unfortunately, we must have the worst college pitching staff in the nation...knowing we lost our solid starters
over the past two seasons, where was the recruiting to replace them?

The West Coast trip is a disaster and an expensive way to get the hurlers hammered every day.

Both Farr and Pinzino were pitching coaches first and head coaches second. Finding kids who throw hard isn't too difficult. Teaching kids to pitch is something that only comes with experience over many years. After command, it's all mental
