Sounds like Penny has stayed very involved in basketball since his NBA retirement and it would be nothing like the Drexler hire at all. Vaccaro has a ton of respect for Penny and what he has done since he retired.

I'd be interested to see the staff Penny wanted to put together.

Penny isn't a college basketball coach. It's a no brainer alright, as much as I love Penny, he is living the good life and doesn't need to Coach, nor is he prepared to do so imo.

I agree. I believe Penny would know what is at stake and would not only surround himself with good assistants, but actually use them. I'm not as opposed to it as I was even yesterday.

Penny's playing career was cut short by injury, he still has much to give and something to prove. Vernon said Penny was on the show 2 weeks ago and told him he wants to be a college coach.

Tony Madlock and Andre Turner for assistant coach positions.
Preston Laird, while we are at it.

All kidding aside, I have always admired Penny.

Yeah, I think Penny is very savvy and would put together a staff of knowledgeable and experienced coaches to help him along. Plus, given his existing wealth, he might take little to no salary for himself and that money could be spent on assistants.

East high school is 17-1, ranked 17 in the state. Any of you who follow HS basketball have opinions on penny's role in this?

Nope. I'd support the penny hire, but my belief is it would end in disaster.

Would be thrilled to see him in that position, it would be a huge story and would put Memphis basketball back in discussions that we've been absent from for a long time. Recruits would line up to play for him and I guarantee you he would surround himself with talented assistants. Plus, He said on Vernon that he would want a schedule filled with Top 20 teams, year in and out.

No different in my opinion than if Peyton Manning wanted to go back to coach in Knoxville. You know he'd be very successful given that opportunity.

Some people have that undefined characteristic that makes them special, Penny Hardaway is one of those people in my opinion.
