Hopefully there are full slate of games there that day. That's the only way this makes sense.

Nice. It was too cool of a thing to not take advantage of.

I just dont understand the advantage of this at all. We are going to play at a basically empty BMS and get beat by a better team. And we probably are having to pay BMS for the privilege of doing that. What is the advantage here?
I could understand if it was earlier in the day the same week as the UT game, or even the day before the UT game. But the week after?

Bucs needed a warm up game on the 10th to get the bugs out and iron out all the kinks in preparation for our big game on the 17th.
Seriously I think we should have played earlier in the day on the 10th. Now THAT would have made sense.

Unless BMS is kicking in some money (or a nice ETSU stadium donation) above and beyond the usual game revenue, it makes no sense.

I'm having trouble understanding this as well. I wonder if BMS is working on a football marathon scenario with 2 or 3 games back to back. Maybe get Appalachian involved or Marshall? I think it sucks watching games at KTS with the liberty bell track separating the stands, it's hard to imagine how hard it will be to see the action at BMS. Kudos to the AD for thinking big but I'm not sure how putting 10k fans in a venue that hosted nearly 200k the week before really sells the program.

App State is scheduled to play Miami (FL) at home on Sept 17th. Is it possible the reason Miami even agreed to play App was because it was at BMS?

Interested to see what develops here. Miami has a largely apathetic fanbase nowadays so it's hard to imagine them traveling well. Appalachian could bring 25k+. Maybe BMS has stacks and stacks of cash to get teams interested regardless of attendance.

RE: You got your wish, ETSU vs Western Carolina @ BMS Sept 17th. (week after UT Vs VT)
If all that's happening is ETSU playing a game at BMS, this is a bad idea. Imagine how embarrassing it will look when the stands look completely empty. Even if we drew 10,000, which is impossible unless they give the tickets away, it'll look completely empty. That's not a recruiting tool.
If it's in conjunction with App State playing Miami, I could see Buc fans thinking it'd be cool to see that doubleheader. Then possibly you sell 10,000+ tickets to Buc fans. Plus App brings over an additional 25,000 people, ok. It'd still mostly empty, which it would be.
I'd have rather had the Bucs play a game the same day as UT, although I could understand UT and VT objecting to having the field chewed up prior to their game.

Front row, 50 yard line seats will be 225 feet from the field.
I think this idea is dumb for UTK/VPI (the only thing selling it is the novelty of the big football attendance ever)...it is downright idiotic for ETSU/WCU.
Zero home field advantage for the Bucs (with 140,000 to 150,000 empty seats)...and right now, you guys need all the home field advantage you can get while you try and build a program back from the ashes.
I just don't understand the upside to this at all.

If you look at the seat chart the "Battlefield" seats are really close and it looks like there are lots of them. Those are club seats for the UT/VPI game but may be available at regular price for season ticket holders for this game.
If we had an on campus stadium ready I would question this; but since we are playing this year at a high school stadium I'm all for it.

BMS striped the infield to illustrate the size and position of the football field.

I do not think anyone involved expects us to put a large crowd in the place. I think they are just working the the local team and helping get a game there. It will be good publicity and good for recruiting. I would have preferred another game with E&H as it too would have the local flavor and it is early in the season when teams play lower division schools. Since we are only a 2nd year team it will be extremely difficult to compete with established SoCon teams like Western but I will be there giving 100% support to the Bucs. I just could not imagine negative publicity had we TURNED DOWN the offer.

Ok, I have to admit, if they have the battlefield seats, that's not as bad, though I wouldn't go so far "really close"...think about it, fan ***** about a running track being around stadium, that's about 30 feet wide. You still have double wide lanes and pit row between you and the back of the benches for the field. Battlefield endzone seats look like they are the only one's that will give a normal football experience.
And honestly, looking at this configuration, I guess for ETSU/WCU you would probably only make the battlefield seats available. No need to use the BMS grandstands. Still, this is a really weird environment to have a football game, literally surrounded by 160,000 empty grandstand seats.
All in all...I'd rather see a SRO crowd at Science Hill.

I can't see a decent seat in the whole structure for a football game, whether it be UT - Va Tech, ETSU - WCU, or Denver -Carolina. And, who believes this place will be full for the UT - Va Tech game?

If this was on the Thursday before UT-VT it would have been a great idea. Thousands will already be there camping and tailgating and I can't help but think a good portion of those campers would have attended. Kind of like the Busch race on Friday night and Winston Cup race on Saturday back in the good ole days of Nascar.
