For those of us who weren't here to watch him play, what are your favorite memories?

RIP. Good man, good friend, and loved his Tigers.

A good man and great Tiger. I pray for solace for his family.

In the last few years we've lost several guys from that era of great teams, Harry Schuh, James Earl Wright, John Fred Robilio, John Bramlett, Russ Vollmer and now Billy.

They will be missed. Go Tigers!

My first awareness of Billy Fletcher himself was when he played for South Side and I played for CBC. I really thought he must
have had grease all over his uniform. He was the slipperiest guy I had ever seen. We also used to get a bunch of guys from around the Treadwell area and drive over to Bellevue Park to play sandlot football against the South Side guys and he was one of them. Fun days that are now long gone and only in memory. I have forgotten the names of some of his buddies but they were a tough bunch but we were a tough bunch too.

Definitely a legend. I wish that I got to see him play at Crump.

Until I read the recent story in the CA I had no idea that he transferred to MSU from olemiss.

I was in the auditorium at Southside the day he announced for Ole Miss, if I'm right Johnny Vaught was there. That was a different era. Billy had it.

Jimmy Peek Bobby and Kenneth Chandler

Too many good memories of these Tigers and the influence they had on Tiger Football. Many came from the fields of Memphis High Schools... Southside, The Central High School, Humes, Messick. All great athletes and Tigers all.

Prayers for his family and friends. He will be missed.

He was also a catcher on the baseball team. I think Jimmy Hardin was also on the baseball team at that time.

Yes he was, and so was I. If I remember correctly Jake Gibbs was there as well. Ole Miss was coming off their national championship season and Billy was to be the heir apparent to Gibbs at QB.
Pretty impressive stuff for us younger team mates.

We had a 50 year celebration of our 1960 undefeated season and you will find a picture of Billy and his wife Marsha at the 2:23 mark of this video:
