BB would be so much easier with weather not being so much a factor, and there is a very good product to sell. I would say that our athletic department is relatively lazy or just plain incompetent.
Although not incredibly vocal, we are having the 100 year of basketball anniversary on the 6th against Toledo. Currently there are about 20 former basketball players and staff coming back for the game.
Why wouldn't that be advertised at every game? I think you just made GFlash68's point. I wonder if selling tickets just isn't that important due to the high cost of athletic programs these days. Maybe they feel chasing donations is much more productive for the manpower they have.
My point is the alumni events are happening, even if they aren't extremely well publicized. IMO, you don't make that much money selling tickets. I mean it's probably just as easy to get a $5,000 donation as it is to sell 500 $10 tickets.
But this is such a short sighted plan. Fill up the MACC and it will be easier to win more games. Win more games and fill up the MACC, and it will be easier to get more participation as donors. We need money but we need participation more. Participation means community attendance and involvement.

RE: Kent State vs. Eastern Michigan
We have never filled the MACC. Not now, not when we were off an Elite 8 run, not ever. The community has had years and years to warm up to Kent State athletics and just doesn't. I don't buy into the theory that we have never tried. Coaches do shows, appearances, camps, etc. etc. and it just doesn't happen. Almost all sports at KSU have had seasons of excellence and that changes nothing. It's all about alumni and their money. That is the way to get the money to improve facilities, get better players and coaches, hang onto coaches, and in turn win games. That stuff doesn't happen by selling an extra block of tickets.

PSLs suck, plain and simple.
And yes we did fill the MAC. Go back and look at the attendance figures or look at some old game film.

depends what you mean by "filled"...if you're talking sell-outs then I believe we have not often "filled" the MAC Center. Pretty certain that the only game we had a sell-out (6,300) even in 2001-2002 was the Akron game. We did have others in the 5,000+ range. The next season, we had a sell-out vs. Akron and a near sell-out vs. Hawaii for the Bracket Buster game. I can't remember an actual sold out game vs. any opponent other than Akron.
I'm sure attendance was better in the early 2000's but it has never been great. I've probably missed 7-8 home games total since 1998.

Agreed - putting 3,000-4,000 people in the MACC for random non-conference opponents or MAC games outside of Akron is hardly "filling" the gym. 50-60% capacity doesn't qualify.

RE: Kent State vs. Eastern Michigan
So if anyone out there knows how to pull attendance figures easily, I vivdly remember being in the MACC vs Akron sometime during my 01-06 tenure where it was a sell out and I want to say even an attendance record. The Butler game and Creighton games were also very crowded. There has been many times since I've graduated that my friends or I want to get courtside seats but they aren't even an option. Same thing for the suite, if you have a party of 10 or more and are willing to shell out the dough, why wouldn't they at least be options instead of automatic NOs?

Kent State vs. Akron 1999...stood in the corner of the upper deck and shared he MAC Center was sold out.
It is impossible to gauge when the majority of your seats are bleachers. If you want to nit-pick over a couple dozen tickets that may not have been sold, okay.
Many similar crowds for Kent State vs. Akron games (the Akron student section pulling the uniform switch-a-roo), (the Singletary gut punch).

I still hain't ever seen anyone in the fishbowl seats on the entrance side up by the rafters. It looks like they spent a lot of money to make a nice facility up there, but it's always empty.

I think everyone would agree, the Akron games are the exception. Akron usually brings a lot of fans. That said, you can probably count on one hand the number of 5500+ games, other than Akron in the last 15 years.

It's used for bigger events, but is a terrible space for watching the game. It's one big loge, so you can't split it up into groups of 10 or 20, and only having a party of 10 or 20 would feel empty and cavernous. Most that attend an event get the meal and then either head to the seats they already own or use the tickets given to them to watch the game outside that space due to the poor sight lines. Rumor has always been they were going to chop that place into smaller party suites as part of a bigger renovation...who knows.
