If boosters come up with hopefully a negotiated amount of buyout money. University can't and won't pay that.

Pastner isn't really one of Cal's guys. He worked for him a season.

Pastner will get his money from us and go work for a big name coach who needs a recruiter. Or he'll get on Luke Walton's staff for whatever NBA team hires Walton next year. Or he'll get a job with ESPN or Fox Sports as an college basketball analyst. He might be horrible at responding in interviews, but he's still got those pretty boy looks that work for TV.

Sure...but those were sold some 6-9 months ago...and its always a danger when customers don't even bother using something that cost more than a few thousands of $$$ for some...let alone they don't (or worse, can't even) give them away.

When users don't even bother to use something that is pre-paid...its certainly a major red flag as many of those empty seats will most likely not be renewing those same seats in a few months (unless they are thrilled with a potential replacement).

Its a Catch-22 for the program...as it will cost a fortune to fire Pastner (and maybe a small fortune to hire his replacement), but if you don't fire Pastner, many of those no-shows will not renew their tix for next year....but, that still might be the least expensive alternative as of now (lose a percentage of season tix holders/boosters vs paying $10 Million to fire and millions more to hire someone else).

6 weeks and it's all over one way or another...the only options for the powers that be are thus:

Retaining JP and seeing season tickets plummet further and actual attendance resemble the final year of the Expos in Montreal.

Buying JP a handful of top players so he can roll the ball out there and they can out-talent almost everyone.

Relieving him of duties and hiring a new coach.

That's it - 3 options. One will kill Tiger hoops for a long time. Second will delay it. Third will provide a slight glimmer.

Wrong - lack of fans actually attending the games hurts a lot of other businesses, which in turn hurts the Tigers.

Money is money - for a lot of folks the Tiger bball program is not producing the revenue streams.

Not the University's problem on that front except they won't get whateever the payment is for having actual atttendance over 9000

Actually the university owes the forum 1MM if attendance drops below a certain level.

It could also be argued that some of the owners of establishments that benefit from tiger games are boosters in their own right.

Look, it IS hurting them this year. When you have the ticket office calling a dude with two nosebleeds begging him to renew well after the renewal deadline things aren't good.

11,165 tickets sold for the game yesterday. Lost revenue for the school is the 1MM penalty to the forum plus maybe some residual effect on donations. When they hire the new coach in March that 11k attendance number is the floor, it only goes back up.

Charlies Barkley was the second biggest star in the NBA in the mid-90s. He also has a big mouth. I think that's why he got his job.

which is about 5k short of previous years. They've already lost a TON from folks who didn't renew (season ticket sales AND TSF donations lost).

I'd like to see how many people dropped this year.

I can buy seats in my section for $75 each for any games I want to go to. If we bought single game tickets through the ticket office for every game that would be $1500. For a season ticket in the same section I paid $1830, with 840 of that being tax deductible.

As long as attendance is low there is no incentive for me to maintain my seats, other than my willingness to support TSF. Per seat donations have driven ticket prices too high for the current demand. In the first year of the forum six club seats cost 7k, per seat donations have pushed that to 11k. That grab for cash paid well on the upswing, but is coming hack to bite them.
