Reports coming out that USM's savior has left the program 2 weeks before signing day for the NFL. Monken took over aN 0-11 team and turned them into a 9 win team in 3 years.

I haven't had a chance to take a look at their recruiting class but you gotta think that a couple of their commits will be jumping ship as well.

Might help a couple SBC teams add a couple of late additions to this class.

Anderson has already been passed over twice and has a steep buyout, plus every player he coached here is already gone. There's no real reason for either side to go that route.

Maybe they have their budgetary woes in order finally, but $2 million is still a heap of money to pay out for anyone.

But in this day and age I don't discount anything. I never thought Boise would shell out $1.5 million to us for Harsin but they did.

It's a doubl edge sword, but it's still rotten have to agree it will probally be an assistant from within.

It makes it easier to decommit for sure. Even if USM recruits aren't concerned over Monken leaving they'll have a pretty good excuse for decommiting that no one will question if a decent offer does come in.

But I do agree with your statement. There are a lot of positives to having your coach go to the NFL... the timing of this is what hurts.

If a coach goes from college to NFL, the timing of the hire is typical. Tech lost a coach to the NFL and the timing was the same.

For what it's worth, I've always pulled for you guys. USM has always been my favorite program in C-USA. They keep knocking you guys down and you keep getting back up.

That is what NMSU's former head football coach did. Took a job with Jacksonville in January of 2013 and Martin became HC two days before NLI day. It was the year we were headed into an independent schedule and joining the SBC would be announced about a month later. A lot of uncertainty then as there is now for NMSU.

Good luck to ULM in finding a HC.

I agree: USM is also one of my favs. Always enjoyed the rivalry between us, and wished it would be re-started.

Any chance of ULL's Hudspeth using his connections in Mississippi to get an interview at USM?
