dude, it's the nfl. and you damn people have no place to talk, considering the fact that the artist-formerly-known-as-the-big-east literally committed suicide rather than exist in the same conference as you.

He's a fine teacher and will do good things for the Bucs' offense, which I hate as a Saints fan. USM will have to try to convince someone else to leave their current job right here at signing day. If they promote one of the current coordinators, they will likely promote the defensive coordinator Dave Duggan, who at least was a head coach in NFL Europe for a couple of seasons. Beyond Duggan, I think the most likely candidate would be former USM linebacker Tyrone Nix. He is currently the defensive coordinator at Middle Tennessee and has been DC at USM, South Carolina and Ole Miss.

absolutely will not happen. a former SEC defensive coordinator is what turned 12-2 into 0-12.

This seems like a promote from within situation, but I'd personally like to see Al Golden coach again.

Actually the basketball schools wanted Tulane.

Dave Duggan (current DC) will be named Interim HC this week. Will be huge in keeping current coaching staff together, which in turn helps keep current recruiting together.

From there, one of two things will happen:
-Duggan stays interim a short time, and a coach is named within a couple weeks.
-Duggan remains interim until the end of next football season.

One thing is for sure, whoever takes over as HC is stepping into a really good situation. 77% of the 2 deep is returning.

as evidenced by the flat fact that they abandoned ship the next day.

I think it is symptomatic of what is happening to the G5.

First, the G5 are richer than they have ever been yet, the financial distance between G5 and P5 and NFL has grown dramatically.

Ten years ago AState fans would have given their left arm to have the program be like Southern Miss, last year the budget gap which was once nearly $10 million had narrowed to $3 million and based on the numbers I've been told off the record AState should pass USM in athletic spending in 2016-17 by a comfortable margin.

The two schools had the same head coach salary in football with AState having a larger assistant salary pool.

The G5 are becoming more similar financially and finding that top assistants in the P5 and NFL are now earning as much or more than their head coaches.

Funny thing is less than 24 hours before the announcement Tulane's top ol commit was in MONKENS home and flipped to Southern Miss.

As others have mentioned, I assume they have to promote one of the assistants at this point or you would lose the entire recruiting class.

Monk took the worst program in the land (at the time) and turned it back into a winner. I thank him for what he has done and wish him well.
If one of my buddy's offered me 2.2 mill for a nfl job i would have bolted too.

I feel like Duggan will be promoted. He came back from UNC with Fedora, his family never left Hattiesburg. That shows me he wants to be here. Also a great deal of our improvement was on defense. The Offensive numbers got the attention.

The man is a heck of a recruiter or was at Temple.

Situation sucks for USM, Monken likely doubled his pay and no longer has to be involved in the pride swallowing process known as recruiting. NIU is on it's 3 HC in 6 years, welcome to our world.

If the numbers i hear are true he tripled his pay. And its the NFL not a college. Hell of a step up.

I'm well aware that he's a troll but mocking Toolame amuses me so I'd be remiss to not seize an opportunity to do so.

It's unfortunate this thread was derailed from the start over some internet troll that got exactly what he was looking for.

Anyways, it's unfortunate for a program that was already rebuilding to take a hit like this.

I know that most Alabama fans have a healthy respect for Southern Miss and I hope the program gets back on its feet.

Schiano did it to Rutgers when he left to be the head coach of the same Tampa Bay Bucs.

I love the way Virginia Tech stuck with Frank Beamer. And the way they let him go out with class. I don't think they've lost anything in the long run by honoring his loyalty to the school.
