Finally got to watch Coach Beard's TV show.
It's a lot better than the previous regime's show. One thing Coach said was that Deondre Burns is progressing and will probably see more action down the stretch. I see he only got one minute last night, but I assume if the game hadn't gotten so close in the second half, he might have gotten some significant playing time. I look for him to be a good player for us by the time he's a Junior. Should get more playing time next year, and a lot his Junior and Senior seasons. That's assuming everything stays in place.04-cheers

I really have believed all along that there is no way Coach Beard leaves after one year, for a variety of reasons. But, if we win our next 4 home games, to get to 21-2, a move into the Top 25 seems very possible. There won't be an AD in the country, who is considering a coaching move, who won't notice that. I still think most top DI schools would be hesitant to hire a one year "flash in the pan", the best example being Stan Heath. On the other hand, what makes Coach Beard different, and what I liked about his resume in the first place, is his previous head coaching success on the DII and professional level as well as being mentored by Bobby Knight. Still think he won't get a "big-time" offer after one year and would be better off building his resume here for 2-3 years. The question then becomes, would the "money" people in this town give Chasse the resources to keep him here? The fact that UAF has floundered in basketball, for almost 2 decades, can only help our cause. When Coach Newell was here I dreamed that we could become the best basketball program in the State. I'm dreaming just a little bit once again. Hopefully, some folks with money are dreaming as well.

I think he will get a mvc, a10 type offer. AAC maybe. There are a lot of jobs that would double your pay and be a big step up

He could do that, if offered, but I doubt he will. Next year's team here will be better. Two 25+ win seasons in Little Rock could get him a big time offer if that is his goal, rather than building a Wichita State-like program here.

Just looked at the bottom-feeders (this season) in those conferences. I have made no attempt to look at the coach's overall record, how long they have been there, etc. The schools are Tulane, South Florida, East Carolina, LaSalle, UMass, George Mason, Loyola-Chicago, Bradley, and Drake. I have a hard time imagining Coach Beard leaving for any of those schools. Now if a school, that is not really down-trodden but is simply not living up to expectations (i.e. Memphis) opens up, that is likely a different story.

Depth is Deondre's biggest obstacle now. I agree we will see more of him on the court in upcoming seasons.

Of course, a bigger worry would be one of the more elite schools in those conferences (Wichita State, Creighton, UConn, Cincinnati, etc.) losing their coach to a P5 conference. That would be a lot harder, maybe impossible, to turn down.

Maybe he will talk to Rick Byrd at Belmont. He has had lookers and I'm sure he has had some thoughts of leaving but he has stayed. Belmont is one heck of a team and coach Byrd has built it the right way. Just a thought
