What if instead of trying to place a team in a foreign market...
What if instead of trying to place a team in places where American sports are secondary, leagues just held their all-star games abroad? It would be good to give exposure of the biggest stars of the game elsewhere as well as bring out the biggest celebs in the US, if not everywhere.
This could also be done with the Super Bowl. A Super Bowl in London is a far better idea than placing a team there that would be an afterthought (except for expats) and extremely far from the next closest team, even if the travel arrangements I suggested are made. They could even do that in places like Tokyo, Paris and Honolulu, even if they can't stand mainland US people (Tokyo to a lesser extent).

Well, let's see. The Super Bowl usually starts at 5:20 PM CST, which means it's would start at:
12:20 AM Paris/Berlin/Barcelona
11:20 PM London time
9:20 PM Rio
5:20 PM Mexico City
1:20 PM Hawaii
10:20 AM Syndey
8:20 AM Toyko
Not saying that's a deal breaker, but I would think that a Super Bowl in Europe would have to move it's start time up at least 4 hours.

Good point. That said, the publicity and hype may be worth it and numerous young people are used to staying up late. Obviously the time could be moved up/back as well to coincide with times American audiences could view it.
