Looks like when a bowl perceives that Notre Dame is not involved, the Big East cannot pull in a bowl on its own. Low tv ratings and poor attendance were cited.

It is interesting to note those low BE tv ratings were received when Va Tech and Miami were in Big East. But Va Tech and Miami did not play in this bowl but in better bowls. Hence, the low ratings and poor attendance.

The Music City Bowl will be a SEC vs Big 10 matchup, their third bowl against each other.

The info I have just posted...maybe it has already been posted. There have been so many articles posted that I probably got it confused. My apologies if I repeated old news.

The change actually happened a couple of years ago.

Last year's game was Minnesota vs. Alabama
2003- Wisconsin vs. Auburn
2002- Minnesota vs. Arkansas

2001 was the last time a Big East school played in the bowl.

CUSA actually had a better TV rating than the BE and the ACC before all the shake ups occured.

I imagine we're still a pretty could TV draw.

I actually thought the Big East would land this bowl. I wonder if the Liberty wants a C-USA #1 against a Big East #3? I would rather have the ACC if I was the Liberty.

I know Marshall has for the past 10 years been competitive with Pittsburgh, and WVU in ESPN televised games. One of their games was the second greatest audience that ESPN recorded one year.

How was the Big East kicked out of a bowl they weren't affiliated with!?

That's what I thought. So the Big East was kicked out of a bowl they haven't played in 4 years?

The Big East #3 offers us nothing. That league has a major perception problem.

The #4's, #5's, and #6's, in other leagues would WIN the Big East. And, that's common knowledge.

Perhaps the Hartford, CT journalist should have used the wording: B/E not wanted, instead of done deal.

There are teams in big east with more history then any CUSA team

Pitt has won National Championship and many Lambert trophies
SU has won a NC and many lambert trophies
WVU top #30 all time wining School
UL name is growing

Pitt,WVU,SU if I had my way would be in the big 10 :D

What will that and .50 cents do for you? Americans, are not too big on history these days. It isn't so much what you did last year, but what are you going to do for us now. Sorry, but this is the "new game" in town.

Carolinaherd,

Everytime we mention our 18-8 series record against UL in football. Some card fan accuses us of living in the past.

Fire away cards, you've got a conference member living in the past.

I'm jsut saying Big East #3 will be a good team UL,WVU,Pitt,SU,ND.

CFN has it this way

1.UL
2.Pitt
3. SU
4.WVU

SU/WVU/ND vs CUSA#1 isn't too bad

I wouldn't bring this up but, the last three times we played Louisville, we defeated them rather handily. What does that mean. Nothing. That was yesterday. This is today!

Thanks for the error correction and a big boner on my part. I had picked up a discussion on one of the Big East's boards on this topic...and assumed the discussion was for this year. While the year is wrong, the BE posters cited the poor tv audience and poor attendance. That part is correct.

It will be interesting to see where the C-USA shakes out. I think 5 bowls is very likely with more revenue received than last year. Teams like WVU, Pitt, SU that count on bowl $$$ I'm sure are not too happy with the current Big East.

After the shake-out....

1. C-USA gets more T.V revenue
2. At least as many bowls
3. Made the conference a true all-sports league

Big East

1. Less T.V revenue
2. Less Bowl revenue- the way it is looking
3. Probably got stronger in hoops
4. Much weaker in football

What does UL have to do with Music City bowl. You guys were saying BE#3 wasn't good

BC - Georgia = Big East won
WVU- Ol miss= Big east won
SU- Kentucky= Big east won

SEC got tired of losing to the "weak" Big east that is why they wanted Big 10 :D

I'm sure the LB would want to relive the nightmare of having Syracuse in their bowl again. 03-puke

Largest margin of victory in the Liberty bowl came fromthe Southern Miss - Pitt matchup.

41-7 Southern Miss over Pitt in 1997

The reason why the B/E doesn't bode well for bowls is there fans will not travel. With the addition of Louisville, along with WVU you have two good traveling teams now. However, Rutgers, Syracuse, even UConn, after the newness wears off, Pittsburgh, USF, none of these schools travel well for their teams bowl appearances. I probably left out a team, but I think if you want to be intellectually honest you will agree.

Carolinaherd,
