Work to start next summer also with a new state of the art synthetic field. Should be fun.

Sweet! UH breaks ground on our brand new clubhouse in just a couple weeks and will be good to go for the 2017 season. It's a player's lounge, coaches office, hitting facility and club for donors.

Those are horrible...especially for a team located in the south.

Red Sox's fairly new Spring Training Home in Ft Myers, JetBlue Park, as a Green Monster too

Sat on the Green Monster many times in Fenway. Great view of the ballpark and cocktail waiter service. A part of my premium ticket price went to a local charity.

Uhh... What? Literally no one at Tulane has talked about this unless I'm missing something. I'd be glad to say I'm wrong, but there are several facilities projects in the pipeline with higher priority than an addition to Turchin. By the way, it already has turf, and it's come in handy to get a game going again right after sudden spring downpours.

I know...as it was a topic on this board about 2 years ago when Tulane installed the fake stuff everywhere...from the dirt area of the infield to the baselines, etc...

Only the pitcher's mound remained dirt.

Thats just not right.

Baseball was meant to be played on grass and in dirt.

For college, it makes a lot of sense. The schedules are really crowded (most teams play 4/ week), and you really can't miss conference games. Turf allows you to play longer, and get started sooner. In the mid south the grass isn't green for opening day, so artturf provides a better surface for teams. Vandy, Louisville, and maybe MTSU all have artificial just around here. With the crowded schedule, and inability to make up games, artificial does a lot of good.

Around here? Around New Orleans?

Louisville is about 700 miles NORTH of New Orleans...while Nashville is about 530 miles NORTH of New Orleans.

That's not "around here".

Again, its sad that teams in the deep south (which is New Orleans) has to use fake turf...even on baseline and dirt infield areas.

I don't like art.turf (or metal bats) at all but I acknowledge the financial pressures that caused them to be so widespread.

Congrats on winning dumb*** of the day. I am CLEARLY in KENTUCKY and was CLEARLY mentioning schools around HERE (KENTUCKY). While the cold is not an issue in the deep south (THERE), I assume you still get spring rains in those parts of the country. For that reason, turf is still a better option for college.

Lots of small private schools around here have installed them. They're cheap upkeep and really don't play that different. Off the top of my head

Elon (I think they have a grass outfield, can't recall)

I know WVU installed a completely synthetic surface in their new ballpark...

UC has switched over too...
So has Houston.

(I am a baseball purist. Give me wood bats, real grass and dirt, and open-air ballparks. But yeah...I understand the finances. )

Lot of rain in NOLA though. That's the reason for it, although I haven't heard anything about the stuff savacool is talking about it.

sava is right for once. It will happen after the 2016 season. Right field fence will be moved in and the bullpen will move behind it. Pierce has been given freedom to design it.
