UT Offers St Johns' BB Player
Current soph, 6-5 swingman Vincent Williams. Averaging 18.5 ppg and 7.1 rpg. Could develop into a high major recruit.

Is this the first st John player to get an offer since Bob Borchert?

SJJ has yielded many D1 recruits... I bet a few had Toledo offers. Roberts, Raymond, Taylor played on the same team in the early 2000's. One to Dayton, Xavier, then Hillsdale but transfered to Xavier after 1 year. Its not like they were Marc Loving types and were too good for a possible look at Toledo.

Roberts was "too good," but just wasn't getting the recognition. Top three since 70's at the pg position in the city. I choose top three because I think I'd get less debate. My personal choice would be 1) Ransey, 2) Roberts 3) Claytor. Pure pg, even Claytor may be too high but I'm comfortable with the first two, even though Ransey had to play the shooter roll in high school.
At a different college program, Roberts would have been in the NBA sooner. Again, just an opinion.
Taylor wasn't UT material coming out of high school. Had a great game against Canton McKinley but that was the first time he'd showed anything and that was I believe the last game of his high school career. Hillesland would have been a beast in the all-time discussion because his defense would have stood out. Reynolds probably just one of the better shooters, nothing all-timey. Or maybe he would have gotten a bigger role here and did even more.
There've been many with the talent but sometimes recruiting is going to be about what the team needs this year, does a kid want to stay home.... Many variables. With Norril's success, maybe more will see paths that stay close to home.

Cheat ham Norrils. . But I have to believe we've offered a number of them. Hope this guy decides to stay home.

It was reported in the Blade that Stan never offered Roberts (Dayton) or Raymond or Hillesand (sorry if I butchered the spelling) that was stupid it ever hurts to ask.

jimmy jackson played point for macomber for his first couple years of hs and was one of the top players in the nation. david smith kinda took over the role as they got older but jim still did a lot of pg things.

Yeah, Jackson was a "miniature" Ervin Johnson at point . Not a pure pg later in his HS a years but he handled much of the time.

Yep he sure did. Ransey. Not even close.
If you and me got to pick a team and I won first pick, Ransey, not even close. I'll beat you with my other four guys because I'll have the better pg by far even if you take Roberts. If you pick JJ, my second pick might very well be Hillesland because of his feet. Between Ransey's quick hands and Hillesland's feet, I think we'd slow him down, given we had Claytor as ref so Hillesland could sacrifice what little body he had without fouling out. If you do something stupid with your third pick, I'll take Miles, which means you'd have to defend out to the half court line. No actually, I think I'd take Miles with my second to make sure I got him, because unlikely you'd think to take Hillesland away from me. If we go back further than the 70s, then of course I'd have to consider taking Komives 2nd on reputation, never having seen him.
Wait, I got the match-up I need to your JJ. As big, as quick, already a great rep at D and has a pretty nice shot himself. Nigel Hayes.
