Official Game Thread: The Citadel (W 101-92 OT)
I find it pretty difficult to boo or heckle players from The Citadel or VMI. They garner an extra level of respect for what they do away from the court.

In my view they're fair game SO LONG as it's good natured banter.
Maybe these guys should transfer to WCU.

Maybe a little bit, because the environment there at both schools is more military-like and requires a bit more mental toughness overall, but the graduates of both schools are not required to join the military in any way. There are quite a few of the cadets from those schools that do, but not all. (For instance, the Citadel only commissioned 158 officers last year. ETSU commissioned 15, FYI) I'm not knocking the rigor of their program in any way, but it's not like West Point.

Watch our guys and the military school players during the national anthem. A world of difference. And yes, they deserve respect, but also some good natured heckling as well.

Love me some heckling. Nothing personal. But if you put on a D1 uniform, you're gonna hear it at away games.
And yes I respect our military.
And no I don't respect ball-grabber PJ Boutte.

At the Mercer game Thursday I noticed that ALL of their players and coaches stood attentively and placed the right hand over the heart during the playing of the National Anthem. I wouldn't think they would be required to do so but for whatever reason it's something you rarely see!

This could get political quickly. But, historically speaking, there's never been a country like the USA -- especially the monumental efforts that have gone into righting past wrongs, plus those serving in the military to protect our sometimes undeserving rear ends. Not perfect and never will be, but still a great experiment in self governance and realistic justice and realistic opportunity --- perhaps some things to ponder during the National Anthem.

I'm fine with the guys standing at attention. I'd prefer that they not look around at everything, but keep in mind, we have guys that are not native to the US, as well as a variety of religions. (Remember, some religions do not allow their followers to salute the flag in any way.) I would actually be a little sad if our coaches required hands on heart. At a minimum, Benny and Peter on the men and Yamile on the women's team should have a pass, of not others with legit reasoning. This is a super patriotic area, so it is hard for people sometimes to see what seems like a lack of respect, but it really isn't.

On a different note, I have not seen Shemar Johnson on the bench the last few games. Maybe I've just missed him. I worry about guys not coming after the break.
Also, is Stokes' situation anything to be concerned about?

When asked about recruiting on last Tuesday's call in show Coach talked about Shemar as red shirting this year. If I understand correctly Toriano is on an academic scholarship and hopefully it is just a matter of paper work.
