New CFP committee members: Bower, Carr, Deromedi and Mullens
http://www.collegefootballplayoff.com/pr...-committee

Quote:Bill Hancock, Executive Director of the College Football Playoff (CFP), today announced that Jeff Bower, Lloyd Carr, Herb Deromedi and Rob Mullens have been appointed to the selection committee. The appointments were made by the CFP Management Committee.

Two are in the College Football Hall of Fame, three were highly successful head coaches at the Football Bowl Subdivision level, and another is one of the nation’s outstanding athletics directors.

The four new members will replace Mike Gould, Pat Haden, Tom Osborne and Mike Tranghese, charter members of the committee whose terms expired after the 2015-16 season. Each of the new members will begin a three-year term this spring.

One sportswriter's take on the new members:

CFP adds 76, 70, 62-year-old ex-HCs to committee, and I'm sure they are very open about "traditional" football vs. newfangled gimmicks.

Some of their initial choices must have turned them down. Herb Deromedi for crying out loud?

So we have:
Oregon AD (also worked at Kentucky)
Arkansas AD (previously at Pitt)
Texas Tech AD
Clemson AD
Wisconsin AD
Southern Miss former coach (CUSA)
Central Michigan former coach (MAC)

Then the 6 "non-affiliated" members:
Vanderbilt former coach
Michigan former coach
NCAA official from Oregon
Journalist with degree from Missouri
ND, ST, UW former coach
Politician with ND and Stanford ties

So you have:
2 with some Notre Dame ties (as well as Pac 12)
2 direct Pac 12 people + 2 with Pac 12 ties (as well as ND)
2 G5 people
3 SEC people + 1 with former SEC ties
2 Big 10 people
1 ACC + 1 with former ACC ties
1 Big 12

I strongly doubt that Ty Willingham has much fondness in his heart for ND, and vice versa.

Quote:Willingham has not lost his love for college football. He is a Stanford season-ticket holder and continues to root for Notre Dame, despite being fired after three seasons with a 21-15 overall record.

Proud to have Coach Bower on this committee representing Southern Miss, CUSA, and all G5 conferences. Great coach and even better man. Will be a good addition.
