RE: Doc: How the Bearcats turn it around
Troy was brilliant last night, but clearly it was atypical--his best scoring night in three seasons. If he scored even 18 a night, UC would be ranked and fans would all be looking for other players to complain about. But he doesn't. He had a game similar to this against UCONN a season ago and I thought it was a breakthrough.

Troy is a real bright spot; maybe the best player on this team. But Jenifer should be finding some minutes or contemplating a transfer--maybe to JC for some playing time and then back. And I don't mean that in a bad way--if he's not up to competing in the AAC right now, UC is doing him a disservice. Evans has the look of a really special player, though he's struggled to contribute in conference play.

Looking around college basketball, there are freshmen starting or playing significant minutes at high major programs and making a substantial contribution. Why not here?

Evans is contributing like most of the freshmen you're talking about. Freshmen are inconsistent, they hit lulls, and they sometimes look awesome. You tend to notice the warts on your own guys. Unless you mean about 5 freshmen studs that are 1 and done, in which case change your standard.

Jenifer isn't ready to help us and our best player plays PG. I don't know why we need to make more out of it than it is. In hindsight, they probably would've RS him, but the decision has been made. The schedule softens so he might get more time soon.

THIS

I wish Jenifer could play too...and I think he could be serviceable if Troy was better on offense without the ball in his hands and could move over to the 2. But he's not so unfortunately we'll have to wait til next year but I think Jenifer will be fine.

Evans is definitely on par with other talented freshmen around the ncaa...He has hit a wall definitely but I'm expecting a big breakthrough from him to end the season.

I don't get the people wishing Troy played the 2 guard. He's a PG who is a decent scorer (who shows flashes of being a really good scorer). His strength is running the offense and making good decisions with the basketball.

100% agree. I'll add that there's no one else on the team capable of playing his position at this time without a massive dropoff. And our shooting guard is leading the conference in 3 point shooting

Wasn't Nick Van Exel a PG who could also score? That's the type of PG I want. That's what Caupain did last night and could do every game if he wanted to.

Yes, Van Exel played point; quite well too.

I think when people say Caupain isn't a point guard it's suggesting he isn't a prototypical point guard. I would agree with that. But he must be the point guard on this team right now; there is no better alternative.

Troy can't play 2 guard. He needs the ball in his hands. And the team needs the ball in his hands. I just wish Jenifer could get out there more so this isn't a wasted year for him.

When part of your offense every game is to look to get your PG the ball on a post up, people are gonna wonder if all the pieces are aligned correctly.

Seems logical to me,,TC is 6'4",,,and that's a mismatch for most opposing PG's..
It's not every part of the offense,,,,but is a good weapon when UC needs a key basket..

I'd like to see Troy hesitate less getting into a set/play..seemed like MC was constantly trying to get the frontcourt into a play
