Sounds like the young man Harbaugh and crew have cut loose has been contacted by our Broncos. Hopefully Swenson and Matt Falcon got along or have met before.

Sounds like a class person from a class family.

As I read the article I was reminded, and correct me if I am wrong but didn't Coach Fleck do the same with a couple kids from Indiana? A lineman or two from Indianapolis?

During a regime chance, this sort of thing is understandable and defensible.

To me the judgements about it have to do with how the communication is handled.

Sounds like a class act and his family as well.

Would like to see a player of that character quality at WMU to join the Bronco players that are similar in character.

Best to this young man wherever he selects to go.

He did. Certainly arguable whether that's ethical or not, though its pretty normal with a staff change.

Whats different here IMO is that apparently this guy committed in 2013 and Harbaugh kept him in the class until very recently, finally cutting him loose right before signing day 2 years later. But, in fairness, we by nature only hear one side of the story when it comes to recruiting.

RE: Erik Swenson
Yes, Fleck did that with the TE from Indiana. I do think there is a difference in situations. Jim Harbaugh has had plenty of time to cut this kid loose. Fleck had essentially a month to evaluate before signing day. Truth be told, the fan in me wants WMU to get the best players and win championships. But as a human being, I think this is a crappy practice that is all too prevalent with college coaches.

I've met some of the coaches at Michigan. Not going to say I know them well because that's just not true, but have seen enough to say, I wouldn't want my kid playing for them.

No different than when a player verbally "commits" and changes his mind 2 weeks before signing day and signs with someone else.

It is different. It's telling a kid he's good enough up until two weeks before then pulling the rug out. He may not have other options at that point. The school I guarantee you always has other options. They know who is leaning.

Why do you think so many coaches like Dantonio and even ours have the policy of, "if you look, we are going to look" Western has parted ways with many kids over the past couple recruiting seasons, for a variety of justified reasons.

Swenson wasn't Junior McMullen. A kid that was going back and forth and loving the attention, and only had his big toe in the boat. If Fleck did this with a kid that was all in on Western, not taking other visits, and did it two weeks before signing day, that would be crap. A couple months? That's a different story, you give the athlete time.

RE: Erik Swenson
Disagree. When jobs, livelihoods and the pressure to "win now" is on the line... any sort of "verbal commitment" is equally non-binding on both sides of the table IMO.

I agree, it's a quick lesson in putting your big boy pants on and realizing that if it ain't in writing , it ain't guaranteed.

Unfortunately, when it comes to he said she said we don't get the whole context from beginning to end.
We get what a writer wants us to hear etc....

I thought I read Swensen attended Downers Grove South HS and not St. Charles North HS outside Chicago. Kid has SCN sweatshirt on? About 1 hr drive a part a not remotely connected.

Just asking.
