RE: Cal-San Diego Considers D1 Again
NWA, I'm sure Fullerton (the Big Sky commish) would love nothing more than to gather up Idaho and New Mexico St, along with the current Big Sky members, and somehow be allowed to have a single, all-sports conference that has a division of football teams in FCS and a division of football teams in FBS.

It doesn't even deserve to be called a pipe dream. That's how unrealistic it is, IMO.

However, if there could ever been enough willpower among the better Big Sky programs to move to FBS (and if that door was open), then I think they should be allowed to gather under the WAC brand and be a FBS league. That brand has the history of being FBS, so that's the brand that should be used.

Not the Big Sky, which should stay in its place, in FCS.

So, if in your system of nomenclature all UCs are Cal-[City] and all CSUs are [City] States, shouldn't Cal Poly become San Luis Obispo State?

They want to be known by that since they dropped the SLO in their name. Since they are the only school in California Poly system, people would know you mean Cal. Poly, SLO by just using Cal. Poly.

But David, if you are going to idiosyncratically insist on using your own naming system you really shouldn't take into account what one school wants to call itself and not another. Next thing you're going to tell me that you actually use UCLA instead of Cal-Los Angeles. Or Cal Maritime instead of Vallejo State.

And there is no Cal Poly system. Cal Poly SLO and Cal Poly Pomona are just names chosen by two schools in the CSU system to stand out in the 23-campus system crowd. They aren't even short for the same long form name. One is California Polytechnic State University (SLO) while the other is California State Polytechnic University (Pomona.)

Why do other schools want to be known as another name than their full name like Chattanooga instead of Tenn.-Chattanooga? Or Charlotte instead of UNC-Charlotte?
