RE: League priority
A quick 2016 Bowl note---apparently, the Fort Worth Armed Forces Bowl is already set aside for Navy next year due to contractual requirements. So, western teams can cross that one off of possible destinations. The only way a western AAC team will get that bowl is if Navy either fails to qualify for a bowl or goes to the access bowl.

Houston's Peach Bowl win trumps all other AAC bowls combined.

RE: League priority
In the next bowl cycle, the AAC ought to give limited access to BYU and Army to the AAC bowl lineup (certain bowls up to twice in 6 years, others max once in 6 years); I think the AAC could land:

Military (v. ACC)
Liberty (v. SEC/Big 12)
Armed Forces (v. B1G/Big 12)
St. Petersburg (v. ACC)
Birmingham (v. SEC)
Miami Beach (v. CUSA/MAC/SB)
Poinsettia/Hawaii (v. MWC)
Bahamas/Boca (v. MAC/CUSA)
New Orleans/Cure (v. CUSA/SB)

It's what the talking heads were saying. I don't agree with it, but do you not remember all those C-USA and MAC fans here throwing that up in our faces? Its one big reason why the only ones that thought UH had a chance against FSU were Coog fans.

Of course CUSA and MAC fans are going to throw it in our faces, because they are looking for anything they can get. It's called grasping at straws.

I understand that. But unfortunately, for most of the college football fans, perception is reality, and my point is, it was not only those fans that were getting that perception. Those that make rankings also get that same perception.

It's why our teams have to play our way into the rankings instead of starting off ranked.
Welcome to the board, Coog Engineer.

Kronke is right. Whoever is telling you that the AAC season was a fluke isn't using logic. There's no way that an entire season of 12 teams was a fluke. Who are the talking heads that have used the word "fluke"?

Thanks for the welcome!

So ya, I've only heard the word "fluke" used by fans of other teams, but its also my interpretation of the comments (I don't know any espn announcers names, never cared), or more correctly, the backhanded compliments about UH and the AAC before and during the peach bowl game when I went back and watched my recording of it.

I could be a little oversensitive to it, and I agree that there's no logic in people calling it that. I clearly remember just how difficult it was to win our conference games, especially the stretch from Cincy to the AAC champ game. All those teams tested the Coogs much more than FSU did.

P5 teams lose players early to the draft, or lose their bowl games, yet they still end up in pre-season rankings. Look at Baylor or Florida, two examples where one team wasn't penalized for "not playing anyone" and had lofty rankings all season, and one team that squeaked by on it's SEC reputation but got blown out in it's last three games and yet is still barely outside the early top 25 rankings for next year ahead of any of the other top AAC teams from last season.

Anyway, didn't think this thought was going to be such a huge topic for discussion. 04-cheers

League priority should be facilities upgrades.

Bowl games are exhibition games. The only bowls that really mean anything are the Access and playoffs.
You really think that had the AAC swept its list of nameless bowls it would have matter past a few weeks after the games?

Does anybody remember previous years bowl records?

We need to make and win the Accesss Bowl on a routine basis that means more than winning the minor bowls

I have not once heard anyone call the AAC season a "fluke"... Yes, we had a few of our top good programs lose their bowl games but that will not erase the much impressive 15 season the AAC had.

..and increased fan interest. We ALL need to increase our season ticket sales and we need to work toward a goal of playing in 'at capacity' stadiums, whether we have a great year or an average year.

WE need to sustain a connection with our fan bases...everything else is a moot point if we can't build that connection.

Delayed expansion could really help our conference if we take this precious time to become a closer and better conference with more interest. Fill the stadiums, generate attention on TV, and field competitive teams and we could see our stock rise.

We must create the same fan excitement and hoopla seen on TV as the Privileged 5. Attendance and winning P5 games are the order of the day. Perception is reality and we must create the perception. ESPN talking heads must talk about us.

We have two huge opportunities right off the bat at the start of the year. Houston gets Oklahoma to start the season and USF has FSU coming to Tampa at the end of September. The second is more of a longshot, but win both and there will be huge chatter around the AAC if both teams can go undefeated in conference play
