That is pathetic. We need more fans in seats. So many people make excuses not to go but this team deserves a lot better. I'll be there thursday like I have been every home game and bringing a friend.

That's the thing. We wouldn't be ninth because we would be hosting better programs. It's sad that our fans only really show out for the opponent, but that's how it is. I really just don't see it changing unless we have a string of NCAA runs.

RE: C-USA home attendance avgs...
I would believe you if we had better attendance for the better opponents we have played. I can rattle off a list of good teams that did not fill up Bartow. Some good ones barley 3/4 full. Even Memphis didn't fill up Bartow the last two times they played here. We cant even sell it out for SEC opponents the last several years. Do we draw better for better teams. Mostly yes but it's not THAT much better. You telling me we once drew 9,000 for Alcorn State and cant break 6,000 for an SEC team? It's more than just playing good teams. It's properly marketing the program as well and it's partly the fan base that has grown stagnant for several reasons. After Sam Miller left our marketing went Titanic on us.

Tell me the last time we sold out Bartow and I'll hang up and listen.

Outside of Memphis, U-Conn and UC our attendance would be what it is now for the other teams. Maybe a small amount more but not much.

Scheduling is just a part of the matrix. Marketing has to get on board and not try and market this program like any other in the country. UAB is unique. Look back at what Sam did and what Gene Bartow did with his marketing folks.
Our fan base has also got to start going to watch UAB like most of the big time programs do and not just for the opponent. Stop making excuses to not go. We fix our part and marketing needs to fill up the rest of the empty seats with the fringe fan. The coaching staff also needs to ramp up the OOC schedule even if we have to do a couple two for ones. We just need to say NO to sub 300 teams. I would rather play one DII school and no sub 300 teams. Maybe one if it's an in state school but that's it.

I wish C-USA would step in and fine any school ten grand that schedules more than one sub 300 team and more than one DII team. That gives you two cupcakes to get the young uns some PT. That's it. No more.

If we want an invite to the AAC show up to games now. Make them want us.

Hopefully if this win streak continues that will change. It's hard to sell the 16-15 team last year playing fiu but a 3 loss uab team in January riding several long win streaks should be an easier sell.

At some point marketing has to pick up the slack and fill the rest of the seats with the fringe fans. We need to do our part and get over 6,000.

We should see a bump in attendance since they unlocked the gates and let the students back on campus. Plus once Joe Birmingham realizes that he can't find any football on TV, he will wander into Bartow Arena in his Alabama shirt.

I agree. I am hopeful we will break 6,000 our next two games. I expect a huge student turn out thanks to Courtney and Tim. they have done an outstanding job.

This is what I have been saying for years and all I ever get back from those in the know is scheduling isn't easy. I get that, but I also feel like we have been trying to deny what we are. I say schedule 3 two for 1's so you have one home game a year and 2 roads guaranteed. These don't have to be powerhouse teams, just beatable in my opinion.(Georgia tech, vandy, Tennessee, either mississippi school, Clemson, nc state, wake- figure it out). Then find mid majors who are in the same boat and find a way to schedule them. I just cannot believe we can't find a Mac, caa, a-10, MVC, upper half summit, MVC, horizon, sun belt, southern, etc to play us.

At this point it is really a shame that the valpo and Chattanooga games fell through. Replace two of the crap games with those, and we at least have a little meat on the schedule.

I would be thrilled if we could have a schedule like:
@power team A
@power team B
Host power team C
Belmont
@SFA
@Georgia state
Illinois state
Murray state
@valpo

A couple of junk games to fill the home slate and the tournament to round things out.
Nothing jumps out as a fantastic win opportunity, but there is hardly anything bad on that slate either. The mix of home and away games keeps the rpi in good shape barring a complete collapse, and every game on the slate is winnable.

I still would not go crazy there are only a small handful of do a buy game with.

Two for ones is not that big a list either. I certainly would not take less than a HH with anyone outside of Kentucky in the sec since we recruit agajnst that league.

Some had suggested us go all alcorn state scheduling which is just nuts.

I'd focus on the high rpi mid majors. Yea we had some games that fell through which made it worse along with some other teams that didn't do as well rpi wise as we thought they would.

If we go into their place and beat them that makes us look better. Win some road games, then make scheduling demands. It is absolutely incredible that we could be a 4 loss team at the end of the year and barely be in the bubble conversation.

Going all acorn state is not the answer. Going all la tech and screaming nobody will play us is not the answer either. I'm with you, focus on the mid majors worth a damn, and work it out. As long as they finish top 150ish, they are helpful for our numbers,

The problem could be that no one outside of Blazertalk is talking about it. Has the local media picked up on how things are trending for the UAB Men's Bball team? Any mention of record-breaking streaks?

You know that even the most apathetic fan out there would know how huge a team approaching some of Gene Bartow's records would be.

This is true. I've mentioned the streaks to multiple people and it's news to all but the most hardcore fans.

We are getting some national media talk. The local media will pick up on us after they see us trending nationally. Its a lot like a hit record from a local band; local radio stations are afraid to play it until it becomes a hit somewhere else THEN its cool to play it...

Do we have an update?

Just noticed this.

1. UL Laffayette 3480 (5)
2. Little Rock 3053 (7)
3. UT Arlington 2911 (7)
4. South Alabama 2237 (8)
5. UL Monroe 1920 (5)
6. Texas State 1732 (6)
7. Georgia State 1696 (9)
8. Troy 1482 (8)
9. Georgia Southern 1262 (8)
10. Arkansas State 1254 (8)
11. Appalachian State 870 (5)

reason I posted this is Ga State is a potential target for expansion.

I was on for them but when you look at their attendance in both major sports you want to vomit in your mouth.

Can they improve is the question. You have to think their new football stadium would help. Not sure basketball could be helped. Their venue is horrible.

ULL is looking better if we expand.
