NTR: Walking in Memphis?
Greetings old friends. My kids have asked what the deal with Graceland is. So I will probably drive up to Memphis for a few days this summer to include Graceland. I can make this a one day and one night trip to secure some Memphis BBQ. If this is in June or July, with a wife and two adolescent kids, what else could we add to the trip to add a few more days of fun in Memphis? Feel free to reply, or PM, with your suggestions of family fun or restaurants. Also, when we used to come for games, I would stay at Homewood Suites because I enjoy the space. However, since the kids have not experience the Peabody, is that a stop on the tour or a must-stay hotel? It's been 20 years since I've stayed there.

Thanks in advance.

Just don't think about playing that song on any jukebox.

The Redbirds should be playing downtown.

I'd also recommend the Arcade Diner.

The Memphis Zoo is world class. You could spend an entire day there. One of only 4 zoos in the US with Pandas. A new Hippo exhibit will be opening and there are millions of dollars in new natural exhibits that have been added over the past several years.

If you're here on a weekend, there should be a couple of free concerts at the Levitt Shell in Overton Park near the Zoo. There are some really good restaurants right down Cooper from Overton Park as well - Memphis Pizza Cafe, Boscos, Belly Acres, The Bayou, Local, and a really cool candy shop called Sweet Noshings.

danny1 is correct do the Memphis Zoo; especially since you have kids.

You'll be in good company.

Adolescent kids? The National Civil Rights Museum is a must. If you have enough time, take them to the Stax Museum as well.

Four other stops while downtown, Rock and Soul Museum in FedExForum, Memphis music hall of fame in the Hard Rock Cafe, the Blues Hall of Fame, and Sun Studio.

Spend the extra money for the VIP tour. The Peabody would be great.
