RE: If ECU were to fire lebo
I actually like basketball as sport better but I know what the big boy sport of college athletics is that drives the bus everywhere and that needs to be protected and developed first. A football practice facility was a hell of a lot more of a practical and useful investment. Like you said many sports no one gives a crap about really both men and women's could have benefited from if done correctly. Football makes the money for everyone else and it's going to be the last thing we invest back into something that would actually benefit our players and coaches from a practical stand point.

Even basketball as next to last I could justify some because we were never without a place to practice basketball. That 18 million dollar facility basically amounts to a flashy recruiting tool more than anything else.

Do you really believe that it was that important? I don't.

Great basketball arena with great fans
New practice facility

ECU can succeed in basketball.

If you ever go inside of Minges, you'll wonder who in the name of God designed it. The renovation it's working with was a half assed one done in 94 and the concourses are dark and scary-movie like. The scoreboard situation is weird, I hate how the seating works. It's just an annoying building. The design of it is fixable, but it needs some work.

Practice facility is absolutely fantastic though. Any Pirates that haven't been inside of it need to do it, it's a really nice place.

I haven't been inside Minges but I think it has great bones. From what you described it certainly sounds like its time another renovation, but I like this type of arena. Some of what you described sounds like Old Moody.

You are absolutely right. In fact, if you put a picture of Minges and a picture of Moody next to each other, they are very similar in how they're constructed. The only difference is that from what I can tell, Moody's roof is higher. Minges couldn't construct an above court scoreboard without seriously obstructing views.

Actually, from those two photos it looks like Minges has a higher roof. Moody's top rows of seats are literally in the rafters, whereas Minges looks like there is more space. Could just be the angle of that photo, though.

Pretty much in the rafters too at ECU.

The first time I saw a Memphis game televised from Minges, that place was much more "alive" and loud than I was expecting based on Pirate fans' comments about basketball in general. It's obviously not a palace, but that atmosphere is an asset to build on.

Not to oversimplify or overly generalize, but I find ECU fans to be some of the most enthusiastic while also realistic in this conference. We all have nut jobs and so does ECU, but their number is pretty low.

Maybe the coach at Florida Gulf Coast would be interested. He's done a great job there.

I do. I think that TH was trying to promote the overall legitimacy of the athletic program. He knew that the football stadium could essentially hold over with the small practice facility upgrades and the Murphy Center when he started the capital campaign for Olympic Sports. You have to think, at the time that he'd started that capital campaign it had been less than 10 years since the upper deck and less than 5 since the Murphy Center.

I think that the Olympic Sports complex providing an overall entrance to the athletic facilities on Charles is something we'll appreciate long term.

That steel roof girder straight ahead is actually blocking seats, and there are TV's on the back side of them.

Dooley won't come back. He was fired once for absolutely no reason and then he turned the job down when they re-offered it to him. Smart man. He should stay away from the ECU basketball program dumpster fire.

Nope. ECU is either going to have to hire a mid-major coach that wants the challenge of coaching in the AAC or ECU will have to hire an assistant at some ACC school. Either way it goes; ECU needs to stay away from more retreads like Lebo. Clearly there is a reason that they were fired by other schools. If ECU has to hire a retread then they should go all out and hire Donnie Tyndal. He would fit right in with the cheating ass coaches in the AAC.

Little Rock is currently having a spat with the state's largest paper because they refuse to call them Little Rock and continue to use UALR. (Wild guess is the University of Arkansas is insisting this)

As for student relations, he bought and paid for a charter bus out of his own pocket to transport students to games at Central Arkansas and Arkansas State free of charge, so he certainly does well in that regard. He's also personally bought tickets for first time fans interested in attending a game.

Trojan fans love him.
