Rick Pitino/UNLV rumor
So apparently, an unnamed source says that Pitino has interest in the UNLV coaching job. Rick responded by saying "my only interest is beating FSU"

I find that quote just a little bit troubling. Why not flat out deny it?

Maybe because it's ridiculous?

Maybe so, but since he didn't there will be some speculation

He did say no.

Link

Quote:When I caught up with Pitino on Saturday, he said of his reported interest: “No. The only thing I’m interested in is beating Florida State” (Louisville’s opponent on Wednesday).

I wouldn't expect him to say anything but no, especially in the middle of the season. This may be just a situation where he's putting feelers out in case he needs an escape hatch.

Pitino at UNLV makes even less sense than Strong at Texas.

RE: Rick Pitino/UNLV rumor
Every few years a ridiculous rumor about Pitino leaving pops up. This is par for the course and probably started by the Big Blue idiots.

Nothing he can say could convince the paranoid or the stupid.

He's near retirement anyway, if he wants to leave that's fine. I don't see him moving west though, a New Yorker in Vegas?

RE: Rick Pitino/UNLV rumor
Pitino would probably be able to bring UNLV back to the Final Four. His chances of doing that at UofL are declining.

Huh? Why is that? He brings in top 10 recruiting classes at Louisville, not sure that he could do that at UNLV.

I'm sorry, but what? Is that based off anything but your opinion? I'd base my opposite opinion on UofL's NCAA performance the last 4 seasons.

Huh? We were a missed free throw away last season to going back to our third Final 4 in four years.

RE: Rick Pitino/UNLV rumor
Here is a point of interest, Pitino wanted Jurich to agree to hire Richard Pitino as our coach , when Rick retires. Of course Jurich would not agree to that. Word is UNLV would Hire Rick as its head coach and Richard as his assistant coach, who would also be UNLV's coach in waiting for Rick's retirement. Makes you say hum, does it? 07-coffee3

Maybe I missed it but all I've seen is UNLV is interested in Rick...not the other way around. Unless you just read the headlines, which in no way reflect the content of their articles as far as I've seen.

Also, every respected insider on Louisville's 247 site including one widely known to be one of Rick's best friends (they share holiday dinners together) have scoffed at the notion.

Maybe so but that is what I have heard. 07-coffee3

Couldn't UNLV just go after Richard if they wanted him?

It's too bad Reggie Theus is struggling at Northridge, because he had an exciting run at NMSU and he'd be great at UNLV.

And you don't think there is a New York-Las Vegas link because why???

Yes they could but is UNLV a better job than Minnesota?
