RE: Memphis Must Hire Pearl - Putting my money where my mouth is. $50,000 Pledge in one
Again, the usual crusaders ranting about replacing Pastner. This time, an offer by the OP to donate $50,000 to hiring Pearl despite his immense baggage. That's the spirit!!

REALITY CHECK:
1. In case you missed it, football is the DRIVER now MEMPHIS athletics and basketball is not-very-close second. Football is king, as it should be; thus most funding, resources, facility improvements, and effort is to that sport. MEMPHIS is late to that party, but it IS the reality.
2. Pastner is indeed history. The well is far too poisoned and the fans are staying away in droves. The empty seats at the FEF speak loudly. Anyway, those clamoring for Pastner to be removed will see this happen by April 1.
3. I'm fairly confident the buy out money will be there and MEMPHIS will find a suitable replacement.
4. However, it will NOT be Pearl. MEMPHIS will not go down that road, LOL.
5. The new coach will be a placeholder; and new young coach and will be paid a decent salary. But don't get all hyped up anticipating a bold (expensive) "name" coach. The hard crash back to earth when reality hits once the placeholder is hired just brings the hurt home. Again, I urge all of you to fully embrace the concept that King Football drives the college athletics bus.
6. Please don't get me wrong. TIGER hoops has done quite well, been successful and entertaining (and, yes, vacated twice), but the focus on it being the "end all, be all" is OVER. The University of MEMPHIS Administration and most of the key boosters truly GET IT: football rules. College hoops is entertaining but it most assuredly has its place - SECOND. It's basically something to do in the cold, dreary winter months.

And since the 70s Tiger basketball has paid for our football team's losses to the tune of approx $75 million or more.

Underwood at SFA, only makes about 350k

Watch out for Chris Beard at UALR....15-1 in his first year with wins @ San Diego St, @ Tulsa, @ Depaul.

Scott Cross at UT Arlington

Dan Majerle at Grand Canyon is 16-2.

That's more like a list. Miller ain't coming. Other than that, very realistic. Not sure about the upside on all - but realistic.

Kind of an arrogant and pompous statement.

If you offered me quadruple my salary and all I had to do was follow an underachiever like Josh Pastner at a program like Memphis, I would jump all over that deal.

Ha! You calling my statement arrogant and pompous! That's rich.

Miller ain't coming because he's turned down better situations. Quadruple the salary? How much do you think he's making today? They are keeping the details of his new contract quiet, but some speculate he got $1.6M for 5 years. He turned down Florida last year offering $2M for 6 years. Decourcy said it would take Florida $3M to get him away from Dayton. So unless we're offering more than $3M, he ain't coming.

Our next basketball coach won't be offered 2 million maybe half that

Depends on who it is.

Haven't you heard? We, at Memphis, are going to buy our way into an elite group of 64 teams in 4 conferences that rule all sports and don't even leave scraps for the other 287 DI teams. Paranoia reigns, and simple math takes a powder. It's the new hoo doo. Be there, or be square.

Yea...pretty common reaction when you're covering your ass and understandable. But......there was this one interview in the middle of his testimony that went a bit beyond covering his ass.

The ESPN Studio boys caught up to him for an impromptu interview that was aired live. I will nevah forget it.

Studio boy."Hey, Bruce! How's it going?"

Bruce, "This has been so good for me.... because I've found God. For the first time I've found God...... It's been such a good experience."

So Bruce just goes on and on about the finding of God. It was rather astounding to watch. Finally Bruce finishes waxing poetic about his experience of finding God and the camera cuts back to the studio.

Crickets.

Finally, one of the studio boys says, "Well I really don't know what to say after that." The other one agrees and there is a quick cut to commercial.

It was an afternoon clip and and I never saw it again.

So Bruce found God because he was at the end of his rope. OK. Sounded kind of like he was grasping at straws, but it does happen when people are down to their last hope...

But whatabout Bruce setting up Deon Thomas and INdiana with that recorded phone call http://deadspin.com/5784437/bruce-pearls...-a-monster

And what about asking his Vol assistants to go down with him?

I dunno. I guess that's just the chance you take if you are an assistant. But I'd rather be Cal's assistant than Pearl's. lol

In summation, Pearl seems to have a higher percentage of sociopath in his personality than most, even though he is a superior motivator of young men and an avid pursuer of young coeds.

I personally don't think we are even close to getting an invite anywhere or anytime soon and maybe never!! If everyone puts all their money towards FB and no P5 invite happens this whole program could be in debt out the ying yang!! I truly understand the big money is in FB with the P5, but we ain't in it and may never be, all the while the most prolific sport for the UoM waddles away!!

Yes, and FB was treated like a red haired step child from the Spook Murphy days until Fuente arrived (with Bowen, who has run continuous circles around the idiot RC as AD!).

We see what a mere modicum of support since 2011 has done with football. 19 wins in the past 2 years. How's roundball doing??
I personally don't think we are even close to getting an invite anywhere or anytime soon and maybe never!!

Love that enthusiasm!!

If everyone puts all their money towards FB and no P5 invite happens this whole program could be in debt out the ying yang!! I truly understand the big money is in FB with the P5, but we ain't in it and may never be,

So you admit the BIG MONEY is in the P5 but basically don't want to put the effort in to trying to attain membership in it. Brilliant!!

all the while the most prolific sport for the UoM waddles away!!

BB wil still be supported; just not the blank check they were so used to getting each year. FINALLY football is being allocated the resources that BB just assumed would be theirs FOREVER. Let's balance the support for maybe a decade, giving football the lion's share, and let's see how things go. It's worth the effort.

My comments in red.
