NU Hockey Thread - Hot Streak
A catch all hockey thread. Not a whole lot to say here, since there are multiple other message boards with active conversation, but in case our CAA friends were curious:

Started the season awfully, going 1-11-2 to start the year. Many games vs. top 10 teams, and many games we outshot our opponents but couldn't find the back of the net.

Then our top scorer from the past 3 seasons and Hobey Baker candidate gets injured. Our top freshman gets benched (who has since left the program). And we go on a little streak. 6-1-2 in our last 9 games. The loss came when blowing a 2 goal lead vs. #2 BC. The ties came against #2 BC and #3 Quinnipiac.

Our pairwise ranking has improved from #55 to #30 during this time. We will finish the season with 9 regular season league games left, 8 vs. teams with losing records. So I think there is hope yet.

Oh yeah, and the Beanpot. Right on cue our team is giving us hope for the tournament of Husky futility. It's been especially tough lately, losing in the championship game 4 of the last 5 seasons, including 2 in overtime. But it's a new year! 04-cheers

RE: NU Hockey Thread - Beanpot is here!
The Beanpot is here! Tonight, Monday night at 8pm, the Huskies take on the bu terriers in the 1st round. If ever there is a showcase in NU futility, this is it. The Beanpot is an annual 4 team tournament in Boston, the biggest college hockey tournament of the year other than the NCAAs. Northeastern has not won this 4 team tournament since 1988. That's 27 consecutive times our cross town rivals have held this trophy over our heads.

Every year we believe we will win, and every year we don't. This tournament means a LOT to Northeastern, and the day we win again will be a giant party on campus.

As much as Northeastern could be a basketball school, as much money as there is in basketball and TV revenue, and exposure to mainstream sports media, Northeastern remains a hockey school to this day. We pack thousands of students into the arena every year, and are LOUD. Maybe I'm biased, but Northeastern fans are the loudest every single year, there's so much passion and built up desperation to finally win this thing again.

You an check out a couple clips of recent Beanpot championships:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v65Vu4T1_qg&t=2m6s (vs a #1 bu team that is arguably the best in college hockey history)

And well, now that I think about it, if you want to watch us lose more games you can follow the links on youtube, it's always the same story. In the last 7 years, we've lost in the championship in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015, twice in overtime.

But I still believe. I think this is the year. We're on a 6 game winning streak, and haven't lost a game since mid-December. Let's go boys! Lucy don't pull the football away again this time..

-Oh and in case any of our CAA brothers feel like watching the game for some reason, it's on NESN, channel 628 on DirecTV, many sports bars get it.

RE: NU Hockey Thread - Hot Streak
First 17 games of the season: 2-12-3. 2nd 17 games of the season: 14-1-2.

Hottest team in the country, but still played ourselves out of a NCAA tournament spot with the bad start. But we finish the regular season 16-13-5 in the top half of the Hockey East standings. A small chance at an at-large if we go on a nice run in the conference playoffs. Game #2 vs. Maine on Saturday will overlap our basketball game vs. Towson!

Also, women's hockey is doing very well for themselves this season. Currently #6 in the country, and face off vs. bu on Saturday in the Hockey East semi-finals. A win should guarantee them a spot in the national tournament (8 teams).

Kendall Coyne looks to be the favorite to win the Patty Kazmaier award this year which goes to the top player in the country. She was also listed on the top 10 women's ice hockey players in the world list I found: http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/top-10...st-season/

Also cool to see former NU goalie Florence Schelling on that list!
